I was just looking through the auctions for a picture. No anything specfic just a picture. I got tired of reading Very nice. I figure I will go look at the second hand shops around here.

Common guys and gals lets get more creative then very nice. That doesn't tell me a thing about a picture. Now in good condition I understand and don't mind reading over and over again in the auctions that says some althought limited not near as limited as very nice. I will have to keep an eye on my own auctions I am sure I am doing the same thing without thinking about it.

As in auction title "{insert item name here] --VERY NICE!!!"

I ignore those. Don't most of us think our items are "very nice?" Doesn't tell the bidder much.

It's in the same category as "L@@K!" and "W@W" as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks, Traceyg!

Hit me right between the eyes. I may be the worst offender on eBay. Had never realized that I start nearly every auction with "This is a nice widget". Even though I go on to describe the widget in more detail, I have committed the error.

And if you want to get really technical - as in grammar - I'm not at all sure a widget can be nice.

Yes, I caught a few on mine also. I didnt have the very nice but might as well have. I do go into deatail like you in the rest of description. Very nice picture of roses etc. . just doesn't tell me anything and there were sooo many auctions that just stated very nice picture. I got tired of looking at those 2 words and after about 50 auction of that gave up. Most didn't even give the size.

I mean if I am buying a picture for a room I want to know if the colors are deep red a light color etc. . . Very nice doesn't give me a clue. It says nothing. My brother thinks snakes are very nice I don't.

Looking at my own auctions although very descriptive there are a few places I can bone up as they say.

Some seller lost a few hundred dollar sale last night because they termed the item as very nice picture. they did give the size though.

PS vargas I also get nothing out of the look and wow. Where do these people come from. Maybe they need an English Lit. class. Grammer doesn't both me mine sucks but give me a description that tells me something.

The kid that works for me I always tell him just think of it this way you are their eyes and their hands as they can't touch and they can only see the picture that will vary in color etc. . . from moniter to moniter.

Have a great day all

You're absolutely correct! It's a waste. If you think like a buyer, you'll know that hardly anyone (except for an AW thread) searches for "very nice."

Depending on the item (I spend less time on low end items), I first write everything I wish I could put in the title. This is almost always over 45 characters/spaces. Then I delete anything that isn't a searchable word.

I'm guilty of putting Lovely, Beautiful, or Gorgeous in the title occasionally - it usually means either I'm burned out and can't think, or the item is so self explanatory that I just want to get my 45 characters' worth.

As long as there is a full description of the item giving size, condition etc just tune out the "very nice" or "L@@K" etc. No use in letting it get to you

Amy (who uses "Up for sale is a very nice blah blah blah" frequently) LOL!

"Very Nice" doesn't bother me in the description, but in the title it is a wasted opportunity.
I agree with sadie999. One of the things I'm interested in is old oil lamps. I often see the title "Oil Lamp" or "Very Nice Oil Lamp", which doesn't tell me a whole lot. Especially when it's listed in the oil lamp catagory -Duh! Something like "Clear Glass", "handpainted", even "Vintage Oil Lamp" is better than nothing. When I have to wade through literally thousands of listings, I wish sellers would give me a bit more information in the title.

Thank you for posting this. I am so guilty of doing this, but today I have taken some small steps to evolve. I caught myself almost putting NICE in the title and would sit here trying to think of something else I could say instead. I haven't posted as many auctions today, but I think the ones I did work on are better! So thanks!
