Did I read something about this here and how is it done? Sure could use the extra 3 spaces up there. Thanks.

Hi mikeboy,

alt 0189 = 1/2

alt 0188 = 1/4

alt 0190 = 3/4

that's odd, for me it's

ALT 171 = ½
ALT 189 = ¢

edited to say I found why:
It's the zero in front. I didn't do it on my keyboard.

Thank you so much for answering so quickly but I'm afraid I don't understand. I use Front Page for my item description (so have the symbols)then paste it in on AuctionWatch's form. I just type in the title on "Create Listing" -all I can do. I got "don't do that" clinks up there when I tried your codes. Where are you using these codes? Thanks again and I've just had the pop-ups mess up my computer again here. Anyway, I'm sorry if this is right here in my face and I don't see it. mikeboy
???Can I paste the title in there from FP? Haven't tried that.

You could try this (Win98):

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map

Double click on the "1/2" symbol (½), click the copy button, then paste to your description.

edited to change "cent" to "1/2"

You need to press the ALT key while pressing the keys (in sequence) 0189

When you release the ALT key, the symbol should pop up.

Hey! That worked! Got it to show up on the Quick Preview anyway. And I saw the alt0189 at the bottom of the map after I selected my symbol. The character map! I've seen but have never used this tool. I'm weak on the word processing end of all this. (Good at photos and graphics though)Thanks again - I will be using this all the time and it will be really helpful. Have a great week-end!

It's the zero in front. I didn't do it on my keyboard.

The first 255 numbers are holdovers from the DOS 2.0 thru DOS 6.2 days. The 0189 type numbers are new (well, not new, but not in early versions of DOS) and contains an expanded Character set.

For anyone who is trying this, and it isn't working, you do need to use the number pad on the right side of the keyboard, NOT the numbers across the top.

Thanks again, everybody. I still couldn't get the alt0189 to work but wasn't going to push it after I got the character map copy to work. But using the numberpad was the ticket. That's a little easier. Very cool - now I can add WOW or L@@K or maybe even minty to my titles!

mikeboy This LQQKS better that L@@K.

The first LQQK will get you far more bids because it's so new. L@@K is the old way & most will not even give it a second L@@K.

If your a book seller, another one to use is:
ALT 0169 = ©

WOW! Thanks, guys, and this has nothing to do with auction listings.

In my "real job" I need to type foreign characters and diacriticals, and haven't been able to make it work right with the program I use. I've been typing the Alt +number with the wrong number keys.

You just never know what great tip you will get here! Thanks again.

I can get everything except the "cent" sign. I tried a lot of different combinations. Any that I might have missed?
