I just received another one of those "falily illness/death" emails from a deadbeat. one who lives less than 80 miles form me and claim to have sent payment twice...i check their bid history and see thgey have bid on more than 30 items in the last 21 days since my auction ended. in their email they claim to have been sooo busy at the hospital with a loved one, that they have not been able to get to their computer, and they have sent payment twice..hmmm what about all those bids you have been making over thaa last 3 weeks, over half coming in the last 8 days.....
i don't know about you folks but i get this type of email all the time form deadbeats adn honestly i don't believe them whgen i see the type of bid history described above...............now i know some of you will say they may not be lying, give them the benifit of the doubt etc BUT i can't with that type bid history.....looks like a lie, smells like a lie, usually is a lie....................
HOW OFTEN do you get this type email from deadbeats and what si your reaction when you investigate their bid history only to see thay have been busy bidding????

usually the deadbeat bidder realised he overpaid for your item, spotted a cheaper and or better one and decide to become a deadbeat.
i have a lady who told me family illness have her spent money on airplane ticket and would give me 25 dollars for my loss.money never came and she continues bidding on mine or other seller items.
so i relist the item and she bidded,i told her she will be end up with two like items and she will pay for both.
so she just used a different user id and outbid herself.
we are not just providing the merchandise ,we are also providing the latest onine interactive video game for the bidders, the sooner the auction fad fades away, the better it is for us sellers.
(of course a few years ago when we were getting obscene high priced bids,we dont complain)

Email them (act sincerely concerned) that someone MUST have gotten their password and is bidding on all kinds of auctions (and give a nice long list w/details) while they are busy at the hospital. And since they are SO busy at the hospital, you thought they might want to know. AND, if they like, you'll gladly pass this information on to SafeHarbor for them!
Let's them know you are on to the game w/o outright calling them liars.
I did this once w/a customer who pulled this for over a month. Never directly accused him of anything. After he got my emails, the "excuses" abruptly halted (never did receive payment) but he kept on bidding...for a while...He's NARU now.

WEll I know what I think !!
I think I would hate to have any of the companies I do bussiness with fallowing me around all month and trying to play detective and point out what they believe I have been doing and what they believe my real problem is for being late with there payment.
Just because you can trace a buyers movement on ebay over a month, Dont really give you any insight to whats happening in there life !!!
as a seller you really have one options you can believe and trust you cutomer for a period of time and after that time is up move on to your next option which would be collections or NPB.
How would you feel if you were a few weeks late on say your credit card payment, your CC company calls to say look since the time your payment was do we have seen you at the mall buying , the drug store, supermarket, walmart and the gas station we noted you made over $300 in puchases yet you havent sent us our minimum payment of $35 for the month..
I think most would start looking into what the stalking laws are for the state they live in .
Just a thought

DMAN
please spare me the dramatics...stalking??? please. you say "Just because you can trace a buyers movement on ebay over a month, Dont really give you any insight to whats happening in there life !!!"............
the fact that these particular deadbeats say they have had no time to get on the computer but have dozens of ebay bids shows they are stretching the truth. i have been doing this long enough to know when BS is BS...
you can also save your time saying it may have been someone else bidding with their ID. the items a usually like items of their past winnings and there aren't many ebayers who would give out their ID and password, you can say it ain't so but i say it is so..hehehe
i love how folks like to throw various crimes around like stalking, slander, fraud that they really don't know the legal definition of,........

this woman deadbeat who claimed she had used her money on airplane tickets for visiting ill relatives told me later her oldest greyhound dog just died.
so family = greyhound dog.
i agree,to look up on her bidding activities give us some idea if we should continue to pursue this particular item and what to do in the future.
there is very little we can do to force them to pay.

i will allow anyone to back out BEFORE the end of acution if they are honest with me, or should i say use a reason that sounds honest to me.of course they can retract without my say so..........as for after an auction has ended if they give a believeable reason and not some BS about sent the payment twice etc etc i would let them out of the bid.......bottom line is don't shoot me a line of sheeeet, i am the perfect seller until i feel like i am being lied to and can reinforce that with some other proof i.e.,bidding on other stuff whn they were on their death bed and using the deathbed as a reason for not sending payment or responding to my emails

No matter what you say about my post , You dont like others prying in to your person bussiness what makes you think buyers on Ebay like it any better.
yes so great you can look into a buyers history if they are bidding on Items 20 or 30 after winning one of your auctions and still havent paid you and only made excuses all you can do is move on.
to point this activeity out to them in email notices no matter how you spell it is harrasment and stalking..
you are nothing more or nothing less then another bill collector take legal action or move on..
If this auction win was for a large sum of money then it would be well worth your time and effort to take it up with a collection agent since the buyer is responcable for paying all the collection fees upon collection of the debt.

I try not to get into the veracity of a bidder's statements. Mind reading might pay better than eBay selling, but I am a seller.
I no longer care what their problem may be; send an NPB alert and file for credit ten days later. While I cannot read minds, I can tell the fortunes of those who don't pay: they get negative feedback from me and at least a warning from eBay if they aren't suspended first.

Well I think you got it !!!!
If there was any Money to be made from worring about other peoples problems ebay would be the frist to try and charge the buyer a fee for the service..

I can't be bothered checking their stories. No time! I used to go through the whole agonizing saga of mailed payments that didn't arrive. Not any more since I realized the odds are good the buyer is not sincere (after the first couple of weeks).
At 7 days I send a nice email assuming they didn't receive my original wbn and restating payment amount, options and my address.
At 14 days I send a nice email suggesting they may have forgotten about their item, restating payment and address. These two emails are text copied from Word files and buyers $ amounts filled in, so it takes very little time.
At 21 days I file NPB with ebay.
At 28 days I relist.
At no time do I allow myself to get emotionally involved in the fact that they aren't paying me. That just happens sometimes.

she bidded,i told >>
She bidded hey now how exactly does one bidded ; ). Loved this typo! That for the laugh.
falily illness/death>>
Anyway on to the real subject at hand.
This is a new one never heard that excuse soothsayer although I have heard plenty reading these boards. I myself don't get many at all. Now exactly what is a falily so I know for future reference.
I don't get many dead-beats. I think it has to do with the way the auction is presented to some degree but that isn't all of it. The more professional and clear cut the auctions the less deadbeats. The ones I do get don't make excuses the few I do get just don't pay.
If you present your auctions as you do your posts here that may be part of the problem. Not something you will want to hear I am sure I am just looking at your post and thinking if you do auctions like that as a bidder I sure would not take you seriously.

How right you are!!!
SoothSayer
I'm not sure why it would matter how far they live from you.
It is also possible to suffer insomnia when a "falily" member is ill. eBay is open for bidding 24 hours a day.
A bidder needs to (1)leave the house usually during (2)normal hours of the day to buy/trace a MO. Not so as far as placing bids.
Sh*t happens in every life.
Do you have nothing better than to stick out your tongue and say Nanny-Nanny boo-boo? Maybe they are more comfortable making up "stories" than sharing their honesty with you. You don't seem to be very easy to deal with. Traceyg makes a good point. The anger and hostility that you post with is offensive, IMO. Not to mention the dozen typos and incorrect spelling.
Hope you use spellcheck on your e-mail.
Attitude check, too.

Why?
I refuse to read your continuous assaults. IMO, you have little to offer the wonderful posters that frequent AW.
I choose to not give you the satisfaction of reading your offenses.
