I currently have a popular CD listed that is out of print. When I listed it, I did not even think of indicating that I got it from BMG. Now the item has a few bids on it. Does it matter that it's from BMG???
I wouldn't even know to ask this question except that a CD I've been wanting (hard to find) was listed and it specifically mentioned it was a BMG issue. It doesn't matter to me... Will it to anyone else??
Should I notify the bidders before the auction ends?

Some people, who largely do not know any better, might think that it does. In fact, with the exception of a collectible recording (for collectible sake and not musical ones), the BMGs are perfectly fine as are the ones from Columbia House. I have very good equipment and enough musical training to state that there's no sonic difference.
I would not mention it. The BMGs I sold were more than satisfactory to my bidders.

If I'm looking for a particular CD, I don't care if it's BMG or Columbia House either.
However, there are folks who collect their favorite artist and are only looking for the original printed CD and not a music club one.
It is similar to book collectors who are not interested in book club editions.
You might want to add info to your auction that it is a BMG issued CD so you avert any potential problems with your winning bidder.

I agree with Kerryann
Better safe than sorry - add to your listing that you got it from BMG and let your bidders decide.

It's too late, isn't it? The auction has bidders... Do you think I should notify them off-line?

IF you are not listing this as a collectable original it doesn't matter.
Technically it the CD is the same only sold through the record club.
But if you are listing this as a hard to find collectable your are more then like going to have an upset winner..

I buy CD's on ebay and YES it absolutely does make a difference. To me a record club edition is only slightly better than a CDR. If I buy one it is only a filler until I can get the real thing.
Now, before I bid on a CD that is available from BMG, I ask the seller before bidding. After getting burned 3 times on half.com, I've pretty much given up buying cd's there because you can't ask the seller questions before buying.
The used CD stores around here won't touch them. It's like advertising a book club edition of a book as a first edition.
If the bids go over about $10.00 the buyer is expecting the real thing not one of a "12 free cd" offer.

When you buy from BMG, the cds are the same quality. It's different than with the BCE example because book club editions are different. They are smaller and the print is smaller too. Columbia House sells cds that they manufacture. Columbia House even has the same UPC on the back as the ones from the store. I've compared them. I've even taken a batch to a store that buys cds for resale and they couldn't tell the difference. They could with the BMG because BMG puts their name on them. Columbia House does too, but it's exactly the same as the ones they manufacture for the store. They are the "real thing", just have no UPC code.
When I buy cds, I don't care if they came from music club or not. Beats getting busted up ones from the store.

I am not sure why anyone would waste money buying a store CD if the identical sonic equivalent is available for less. But people do waste money on all sorts of things these days.

As a collector it matters (Over $7 -$8), as someone who just wants a copy of the disk, it doesn't. Only mention it if it's MARKED different than an 'off the shelf' CD and it's out of print, or a special box, or edition.
