Is there any problem with shipping carbonated soda sealed with a bottle cap? Like will they explode or anything? Not even sure if there is any carbonation left in the bottle because it's from 1998.

I've never done it, but I'm sure you need to mention it to the post master.

I wouldn't worry about the carbonation exploding the bottle, or airlines wouldn't have it on board to serve to passengers. What would concern me is the contents freezing. It gets awfully cold in the cargo hold of a plane at 30,000 feet. I'd wrap it well in some type of insulating material like the foam they use on outside water pipes.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Thanks sparks I didn't think about it freezing. I did think there might be more of a problem with the old fashion type bottle cap rather then twist off.
krissa - I think I will ask at the post office just to be sure.

I bought a full coke bottle a couple of years ago and it arrived just fine.
The carbonation was probably gone as the bottle was old, but there wasn't any leaks.

I sell collectible coke bottles all the time. I have not had a problem with them freezing, even in the middle of winter. Although, I do add a warning (winter)to let it warm up, before opening. I've shipped as many as 15 bottles to Japan at one time, and all arrived with no problem. One thing I do, is to bubble wrap each bottle, then crumple paper around it. It's a great cushion, and insulation at the same time.

I once shipped Smitty's Hot Sauce (1 gallon) 3,000 miles away. $20.00 shipping. The buyer was from our hometown and remembered it and asked me to do him the favor! Barbeque in California, New York style. I had to laugh. No problem though. It made it.
