Just for fun....and maybe some seller enlightenment....what makes you automatically hit the BACK button when cruising the auctions?

My personal favorite is:

"MO/cashiers checks ONLY!"
"NO personal checks...any sent WILL be returned"

I understand that you OBVIOUSLY do not want to trust my checkbook balancing skills...so I guess you will understand that I do not wish to trust YOUR packaging, labelling, and timely shipping skills!

Well, I like using Personal checks, but will use billpoint or money order if I have to.

What sends me backwards are flashing pics, java script nonsense that follows my mouse pointer, music, and pictures that take more than a few seconds to load. I won't even stay to look at the picture if these are in the ad.

No shipping costs? No bid. Crazy busy wallpapers behind the auctions too...just show me a good picture of the item with a complete description in text and format that is not unbearable to read.

DOes anyone know if there is keyboard equivalent to the "BACK" botton? Are there ctrl keys or alt keys combination to replace the "BACK" botton?

Music files playing. They slow things down, they interfere with the music I am already playing on my computer, they're distracting, and have been known to cause my browser to crash.

Also, the word "handling" in the shipping terms will cause me to flee, no questions asked, unless it is a one-of-a-kind item that I absolutely MUST have.

commentary: It may depend on your browser, but try Alt-Left Arrow.

What causes me to use the back button?

Very large pictures that take forever to load. Multiple smaller pics are ok.

Sound files playing in the background. They can be annoying.

Wild multicolor backgrounds.

High shipping and handling charges, depending on the current bid amount and my perception of the item's value.

TOS that sounds like the seller is extremely anal. (Payment must be received within 7 days or negative feedback will be left.)

A lot of recent negative feedback. I have seen some volume sellers that average 30+ negs per week...

Good post! All Plug in's, 3rd party galleries, and so much text that you have to scroll forever just to see the pic.

In Internet Explorer you use the BACKSPACE key to move backwards. I rarely use the toolbard when web surfing.

Had to add one:

How about sellers who DEMAND payment in 7 days by cashiers checks on auctions that end on Friday afternoon....and you don't even hear from them until Monday night???

NO PROBLEM! I will just have Spock fire up the teleporter to get your money to you!

Do's and don't bombardment is not a "come on in" greeting

Had my eye on an auction wanted more of the condition other than "good" emailed seller who didn't provide anymore information. The auction closed with no sale.

ALT-LEFT-ARROW is the same as hitting the back button, in both netscape and IE.

And ALT-RIGHT-ARROW is the forward button.

If you have one of those mouses with the buttons on the side, like those new MS infrared optical mouse, you can configure those side buttons to be forward/back as well.

No electronic payment methods. <back click>

A TOS section longer than the Gettysburg address.<back click>

Dark blue text on a black background.<back click>

"Sold as is, absolutely no returns, or exchanges." <back click>

"We ship only via the slowest and cheapest method available." <back click>

All of the above, plus "Would'nt this make a lovely addition to your collection". Cannot STAND that comment! Also if no measurements, colours, and a demand that payment be RECEIVED within so many days, leaving no room for Post Office mess-ups, instead of a polite "Please MAIL payment within XXXX, thank you..."

Auctions starting at 1.00...with 15.00 or 20.00 shipping (I am talking about low-cost, light-weight items)....

A 100.00 vase or whatever, with 15.00 and up shipping, just because it is an Antique, unless it is SOOOO FRAGILE, it needs triple boxing

Sellers whose terms are longer than about two or three sentences. The only thing I want to know is shipping costs and payment methods;lawyer wannabes need not apply. I have never met any buyer who needs to know more than what it takes to complete a transaction.

NO mention of shipping amount
No Paypal or Billpoint ~ I don't bid if I have to mail a payment
Background wallpaper & music that take too long to load ~ forget that. So annoying
Dark background and you have to strain to try to read the details
Horrible pictures that are soo dark and unclear ~ I mean mine are not the best but at least ebayers can see the item

Worst pet peeve with clothing ~ no size in title ~ forget that.... will pass by and not even click on title
Even if they don't know.. at least estimate s m l xl !!

mballai:

I'd rather have a somewhat longer TOS, because I don't like having to be a mindreader. Also, reading a TOS is very revealing of the underlying character you'll be dealing with...

Music! (Jeez, how annoying!)

Backgrounds of logos, pictures, etc. (Why?)

Pictures of the seller's cats, dogs or brats.

Stupid jumping animal gifs.

Third party galleries!

icyu I agree: I prefer a little too much TOS: at leat, in most cases, I need not waste time wrting to Seller...

The "No Electronic Payment" does not bother me. I am one of those sellers who NO LONGER accept them because of past problems. And truthfully, the person interested in my merchandise looks beyond the inconvenience of sending a check.

Dare I say: Sellers who can be dealt with only through Andale...?

But please, let's not sidetrack this enjoyable list of pet peeves by rehashing those 3rd party payment plans. That topic was really beaten to death a couple of weeks ago somewhere on AW.

Always:

MO's only.

"Mint except for the head came off and was glued back on. You can hardly see the repair."

Payment in 7 or fewer days. Ok, let me put my life on hold since my eBay purchase is the only thing I have going right now. 7 business days is reasonable - 7 days indicates to me that the seller doesn't really have a clue that there's life beyond eBay.

Almost always:

Pictures that take forever to load.

Droning on and on about serious bidders, deadbeats, blah blah blah blah blah.

"Picture says it all." Um... nope it doesn't.

No shipping info.

Droning on and on about how horrible PayPal is to justify not taking it. It's ok not to take it, stop defending your position.

Anything about negative feedback. Don't threaten, just do it.

and just a couple more:

"Slight damage but easily repaired"
(so how come why for didn't YOU repair it?)

"Missing a few parts that can be found easily online"
(they are so easily found that I am giving up and hoping to unload this on somebody else!)

Sellers whose "feedback left" volume is low compared to their feedback received. (And yes, I do look at this statistic before bidding).

Seller states they only ship one day per week. Seller waits 45 days for 21.99 check to clear without checking with his bank, just to be safe you know!
