Yes, I think it's a dahlia, too. But the leaves directly around the flower don't look right (more like weeds). But the flower itself is almost certainly a dahlia.

Wow, once I did a search for Daliah I found a great site with scads of pictures. They are beautiful flowers.
I took that picture yesterday at a local garden center, but there were no names on any of the plants. I'm not a gardener, so if it isn't a rose or a marigold, I'm lost.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. AW is just awash in information.

It wasn't that kind garden center. Our local park has an area called The Garden Center. There is a fountain, an Eternal flame, walking path, and gardens. No one was about yesterday while I was there taking pictures.

Yes, they're right, it's definitely a dahlia. The "dinnerplate dahlia" I have has leaves like this picture, but the minature dahlias have very different leaves. Beautiful flowers, come up every year and require no maintenance at all except for staking up when they get top heavy with flowers. I love them.
