Hello,
I see that today Internet Explorer has been released. Anybody try it yet? I don't want to download it then not be able to list on eBay if IE6 is buggy. Thanks for any advise. I have Windows 98SE.

Ok. Thanks for your input. When I first got 5.5 it was goffy so I went back to the older version. Oh Well. Mr. Gate is having a big party today at the baseball stadium. The stock is doing so bad, oh well.

I won't touch it until they come out with a service pack or two for it. Always wait...the patches are never far behind.

I just looked at Zdnet and saw the bad reviews users gave it. I'll pass to. I still have Windows media 6 because I had trouble with 7. Thanks,
fonze.

It's quite stable and a bit faster than 5.5 SP2 or Netscape 6.1. Apple corrected the problem with QuickTime and IE;get the update from them.

I still like Netscape's interface better and there's really not much new in IE. The privacy stuff is the important new feature(s). Haven't decided to switch--I use both as Microsoft Office 2000 relies on IE.

The nice thing is that both are free. Hard to argue with the price

It was noted on TechTv's show The Screen Savers yesterday that IE 6 does not support Java. I would not choose it for that reason alone.

I'm running IE 6 on Windows XP and Windows 2000 and it's quite nice. Seems faster than IE 5.5.

I'm one of them early adopter people and I don't hate Microsoft. I call them on their mistakes, but don't hate them just to hate them.

Anyway, IE6 is well worth the DL and install. Also Quicktime DOES work within it. No problems there.

And it DOES support Java, you just have to DL a Java virtual machine (the plug-in installs in just a few seconds) and you're good to go. Our public library has a tool you can access via the web and it's Java. Works like a champ.

DON'T INSTALL IT !! For some reasons, it screwed up my computers, Javascript doesn't work with it anymore, it also try to download the latest/great Windows Media Player, and now it broke my older working version. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall many times without any success.
I cannot deinstall anything, everytime I tried to do an Add/Remove program I got a blank screen, it also corrupt a few apps I got on my computer. I got IE6 beta running for awhile without any problems, so I thought an upgrade can't hurt ... BAD assumption with Micro$oft !!! If you've IE5.5 SP2 working properly, and everything else working fine. DON'T DO IT !
I cannot even move the icons on my desktop around now, they're frozen ! Can delete/create new shortcuts, but cannot move any of them around
I got WinXP now and maybe I'll just zapped everything and put XP on. Hopefully, it will fix my problems.

DL'd and installed it a week or so ago here at home and at work. So far everything that worked before has worked since. Seems a bit faster. No complaints so far from here.

If it anything like Netscape 6 don't install it. Makes your system slow. Very slow. Then if you try and delete it, it doesn't go away. You can delete it but for some reason it hides and pops up now and then but more now. Then when it happens it slows the whole process down. I would rather have a slower load than Netscape 6 which is even slower. I use Netscape 4.5 and that is fast enough for me...

I downloaded it when it was in beta...I kept getting errors, and a few of my programs wouldn't work.. It just kept getting worse, until I had to reformat my computer.

I use windows ME, and tried to go back before I Installed IE6, and it wouldn't let me go past the time IE6 was installed.

It was in beta, but I think I will wait just alittle longer before I try it again.

Some of the problems people have with the latest versions of IE and more with Netscape is that they require a fair amount of hard drive space and do require more RAM to work properly. If you have 64mb, it's time to buy more RAM. I have 256mb and I'd put in more if my computer would accept it. My next machine will have at least 512mb.

I definitely agree with peiklk...

I have Windows 2000, and find IE6 much faster than IE5.

CNET's review is quite the opposite of the one referred to here - very positive!

IE6 is NOTHING like Netscrape 6. IE6 = Good. NetScrape = BAD.

Sorry, I know there are anti-MS people out there who keep netscape going, but their web browser is very, very lame.

I used to have it installed when I was doing web design regularly and had to insure browser compatibility (even though Netscrape only has like a 19% share of the market). I cringed every time I opened it. It is so non-standard for a Windows app. BLECH!

Sorry for venting.

Unless you upgrade to Human Brain version 2, I don't recommend you installing Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape 6. You'll have to reformat your hard drive...

Funny how people have differing experiences. IE6 is wonderful.

Yes, the mozilla open source movement is what is keeping the netscape browser going. Nav 6.1 is based on mozilla 0.9.2.1. Mozilla is up to 9.3 itself.

I've got mozilla 9.3 and nav 6.1 on my mac at home. Here at work I just put Nav 6.1 on a PC that I work on and it's a little slow but works fine. The machine is older itself.

I'll admit Nav 4.x is crap but I've had absolutely no problems with the new browsers on a variety of machines.

I'm not going to bother with IE 6.

IE6 is what you will get with XP. If it was bad, a lot of people would not upgrade to XP and that would be really bad for the computer industry because XP will probably get a lot of people to buy new hardware.

I'm running XP Pro (yes, it's final now), and there's absolutely nothing wrong with IE 6. Quicktime works fine, it does indeed have full Java support, and it's faster and more stable than earlier versions. From reading the other posts, I think I understand why some people are having problems, though. IE 6 is intended for Windows 2000 and XP, not 98 or ME. There *is* a version available for those "older" Windows builds, but it's more or less an afterthought, and doesn't really integrate very well. As for Netscape, well, I do a lot of surfing in Linux, too, and all I can say is thank God there's a Linux version of Opera. I've never really liked Netscape, although I did use it back in the old days when IE really was crap. The only advantage is that Netscape allows you to override the document's fonts with the defaults you choose, which helps compensate for Linux's less than stellar handling of true type and some other dynamic fonts. But, I digress, as usual. <G> It just comes down to this. If you're running Win2K, go ahead and upgrade to IE 6. If you're still using one of the DOS based Win builds, stick with IE 5.
