I just had a auction ended by ebay due to listing a firearm replica against policy. First off I did list 2 Colt .45 automatics and 10 hand grenades, so Iam guilty as charged but they were for a G.I. Joe doll! Each pistol is 1/2 inch long and 10 grenades will fit in the palm of your hand. My question is do the dopes who pull auctions read the auction decriptions and look at the item catagory? I first was mad but now I am laughing. I wrote back to have the item reenstated but I doubt they will

LOL

To be hired by eBay, apparently one has to have a combined SAT score no greater than the 200 you get for putting your name on it correctly.

So are these allowable and ebay screwed up -- or are these not allowed?

No they are allowed, I sell them all the time, in fact they didn't pull the 70mm G.I. Joe cannon that's up. Oh I forgot! Here is a link to the picture of the items. Please note the penny that is as large as the pistol.

Here is the letter they sent and the violation in question.

eBay appreciates the fact that you chose to list your auction:

1635143460 Vintage Hasbro 2 .45 Pistols & 10 Grenades

with us. However, the replica firearms listed do not appear to comply with our replica firearms policy. Therefore, we have ended this auction and all fees have been credited to your account.

Specifically, federal and state laws require that replica, "look alike" and imitation firearms have clear markings permanently affixed to the weapon -- the most common
requirement is a blaze orange plug inserted in the barrel of the item. This law applies to replica or imitation guns, "airsoft" guns, and even to novelty items, such as cigarette lighters, that are designed to look like firearms. eBay will NOT permit the listing of any look alike weapon that does not comply with these laws.

Please view our guideline page for a better understanding of our auction policies and how they affect the way you list your item

That's pretty funny...

Have you tried putting the word "Toy" somewhere in your title?

Look at the positive.

Now you can list them everywhere else and put "Banned On eBay" in the title.

Is it possible that there is a corollation between the size of the item and the size of the intellect that finds it threatening?

If I remember right there was a little kid who was suspended from school for the same offense. He had a toy gun that was about 1/2 inch long. Part of the zero tolerence for weapons policy...

Yep. Heard that too. There was also the kid who used a school food chicken finger as a gun and BAM -- gone!

Girl here had gotten a scholarship to college, went ahead and was moving down for the summer before school started (got an apartment). She moved some stuff like two weeks before graduation. A BUTTER KNIFE fell out in her car. She didn't know.

School security saw the thing in the window and she was suspended and prevented from participating in graduation. She still graduated, but wasn't allowed to walk. She was like the second-in-class, I believe.

ZERO tolerance = ZERO thinking on the part of school administrators.

----

Back to the reason I asked. I picked up a boatload of GI Joe weapons, gadgets, add-ons, etc. that I was going to sell in the next couple of weeks. Didn't want it to be a problem!

Oh Boy! I was about to list some scientific equipment used for microwave digestion. The common name of these items is "Parr Bombs". Guess I better leave the jargon out of the description.

Why don't you pay your ebay fees with monopoly money? If they consider toy guns real, they might not notice.

Are the people who police eBay on the payroll? Last I heard anyone could "turn in" a questionable auction and eBay would just end it without even taking a look at it.

Now I remember why I didn't like listing on eBay. All the foxes guarding the hen house.

I turned in one that was clearly illegal -- the photo they had was even marked as such. But ebay did nothing and said I had to tell the VERO.

Update; eBay has allowed me to relist the item today and I got a nice apology letter to boot! My faith is somewhat restored.

In a way this was sort of funny and I'm glad you got your auctions reinstated.

Guess Ebay was afraid that an army of ANTZ would buy your auctions and attack the world!
