This may not be quite the proper place for a modem question but you all are always so helpful. I replaced my modem last week and now I can only connect at 26400. Yuck!! Talk about slow. Anyone know of any good modem help web sites. I don't think I installed the software right. Would it help if I started from scratch? Help!!!! I'm so impatient and 26400 just ain't gettin it. Thanks! Barbara

26400

This is fairly average if when you log on with your old modem and you seen it telling you you were login at 115000 this was the false reading.

The login speed you read is based on the speed of the modem dailed into not your modem so the slow down is on your providers end not your's.

The fast I have ever loggin useing a 56K or flex modem is about 42000 to 44000 but 26400 is average.

you are at the mercy of all the other servers and router in your path modem speed is less then 50% of the problem I have cable modem and many times I am still sitting waiting for sites to load...

I don't know what it is but when I moved a couple of years ago, my modem speed dropped from 48000 to 26400. Same computer, same setup, just different phone company. I've even tried 2 different phone lines, and still stuck at 26400. I've tried everything I can think of...re-installed everything, etc and still can't get a faster connection.

After this long it doesn't seem so slow anymore.

Try DSL or Cable, if these aren't an option ask your ISP which one they suggest. I was once in your exact position, mine suggested US Robotics Modem. I went with cable, it made all the dif.
