I seem to be having a lot of bid retractions lately. Granted, I've been listing more and I was wondering if this is common for those of you that list a lot of auctions?
It really annoys me-especially the reasons. One was on a little girl's dress. Reason-not the right size. Ok-size is clearly stated in auction-even a tag showing the size. Or the one from last night (with auction in it's last day) on a video game. Reason-"child not really into sports". Allll righty then. Did they just decide this or did you not understand that NBA Basketball was sports related when you bid? This person has a FB of 3 with 3 bid retractions-2 in the last 7 days.
I'm tired of bidders bidding willy nilly and then retracting their bid. It's so unfair to the seller.

We have had 2 this week after going for months with none.
Is there any recourse we can take since clearly the reasons given by the bidders-nonbidders go outside of what is supposedly allowed by Ebay? We have read these people the riot act and gave them the permitted and not permitted reasons from Ebay. However, we are pretty certain Ebay won't do diddly about it if it was reported to Safeharbor. Anyone had any experience in taking bid retracters thru the wringer?
Think about maybe reporting them and simultaneously putting them on our Bid Block list(?)

I had one last week that took my $81 dollar item back to $2.00. And they had 15 retractions in a week! I think ebay should be kicking their butt of IMO. It's not a game.
Curious to see if ebay does do anything.

Here's what the Ebay's web site says will happen.
"We will thoroughly investigate bid retractions, and abuse of this feature may result in the suspension of your eBay account. Bids retracted within the last 24 hrs of listing can be viewed as Bid Shielding, which is a serious violation of our policy."
Also, a person cannot retract a bid less than 12 hours before the end of an auction. I like that!

True, unless they bid within that last 12 hours, and then they have 1 hour to retract.

Once in awhile I'll run across a nutcase that's retracting numerous bids each & every week. When they hit my auctions I report them to eBay, and eBay has indeed taken action & suspended their account.

Somehow I knew I wouldn't be alone in this problem.
A few weeks ago, I had a bid retraction on a pair of shoes stating reason found another pair. I checked feedback and they had 22 bid retractions. I was in a pissy mood and decided to go after that one. I turned him/her in and they are now NARU. Helped my mood somewhat.

eBay won't do diddly.
I had a really mentally challenged newbie a while back. She bid on an item, up to 50$.
Then someone came along, overbid and it went to 52$.
The newbie thought that since she had been outbid, she'd better retract. She retracts, bid falls down to the $35 reserve level.
Arhggghhh!
I emailed her and explained, asked her to reinstate since it would cost her NOTHING, she apologized but did nothing, neither did e-Bay. Lucky item ended at 57$, but it might have been more ;-((

That is so funny! I had someone do that this week!
I just emailed them, explained that they had best figure out that when you get outbid, you don't retract your bid.
Then I put them on my blocked bidder list.

I had some bonehead (am I allowed to say that? oh well too late) retract a bid, This is annoying enough in itself but the reason left was "Error in the article" What!!!???
error in your brain chemistry is more like it.

Like naru's bonehead, I had a dunderhead bid on three of my auctions, then retract two as "error". When I checked their feedback, they had 49 retractions, 18 in the past week alone. I cancelled his third bid, put him on the banned bidder list and went on with life.
He emailed me to say the auction was ended early and can he still buy the item. Though his was the only bid before I cancelled it, and the item went unsold, I emailed him a polite but firm "no", explained why, and hoped he might reconsider his habit of changing his mind through abuse of the bid retraction mechanism.
"But I pay for the ones I win," was his reply.
I didn't report him to ebay, but now that I know they do take action on bidders who abuse this feature, I will do so if it happens again.

I had one several months back that retracted on my auction because he quite obviously bid on another and won it at a lower price. I made him my project for the next couple of months after I noticed that he had high double digit retractions in the last six months. I politely reported him to eBay and asked just how many retractions was considered excessive. Of course they never really answered my question but they told me he had been warned. For about a month he laid low and bid on few items with no retractions. One night I go to bed and he has no retractions in the past 30 days and the next day BAM! he has six. I contacted eBay and now he is NARU'd.
Yep, I probably had better things to do with my time but he really ticked me off and I made time for him.

I just had on on a ten day auction. Expensive item, bidder bid the first day, bid stood for 9 days, then just before the deadline he retracts with:
"Explanation:Still a full day left and I found another"
