I have an item that I'm not going to ship because it has been damaged since listing. How would I request a credit for my final value fee? Do I need to go the non-paying bidder alert route? I don't want to upset the high bidder anymore than I have to!

File a non paying bidder alert, and under reason, select:
"Both parties mutually agreed not to complete the transaction"
eBay will send the bidder a friendly email that looks like this:
Dear *******:
Congratulations on your recent winning bid for ***********, ************************. Your seller, ************, has contacted eBay. We've been told that you have decided not to purchase this item.
If this is correct, do nothing and enjoy your time on eBay. However, if this is not correct (you have purchased or intended to purchase this item), please tell us by writing to [email protected] and include "Not Correct" in the subject line of your email.
Thanks for your assistance.
Regards,
eBay SafeHarbor Team
You will instantly get your credit.
But make sure you discuss this with the high bidder, and explain that it will not hurt their eBay account.
