My local Adelphia, NJ post office is refusing packages at this time, until further notice, stating they received such a directive. Anyone else experiencing this?

I mailed packages Tuesday afternoon with no problem.

I just called my local PO (Highlands Ranch, CO - sub of Denver) and was told they are accepting packages BUT that they are going no where at this time. She did said that it may change sometime today if they run out of room or receive other orders to stop.

I went to my post office and mailed packages this morning. I live in upstate NY and was told that they cannot accept any Express Mail packages, and all other packages, including Priority Mail, are on hold until they are able to ship them out. There will definitely be a delay. I have contacted all my customers whose items I shipped today, and notified them of this. Hopefully they will be understanding about this.

What happened to truckers? Can't they use truckers? You get a two person team to drive 8 hours each and you got a 16 hour haul. In 3 days you could go from California to Florida.

Mail Still Moving!
Nation's postal employees are delivering

WASHINGTON D.C. - Postal employees across the country are continuing to maintain normal collection, processing and delivery operations following yesterday's tragic events in New York City and Washington, D.C.

"The best thing we can do for America right now is to keep the mail moving," said Postmaster General John E. Potter.

Mail continues to flow to its destinations and POST OFFICES throughout the country ARE OPEN to serve customers. The only exceptions are the portions of New York City most severely impacted by yesterday’s events.

Since nationwide air transportation was suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an expanded ground transportation network is moving mail. Once the FAA allows commercial flights to resume and carry mail, the Postal Service will use all existing means to keep the mail moving to the American people and businesses.

Theres certain regulations pertaining to truckers. I can't remember what it was right now....

Also, Amtrak and some of the Railroads handle sizeable ammounts of the mail. Of course, Amtrak suspended operations on the NEC (Northeastern Corridor) until further notice and stopped trains such as [bThe Cresent[/b] soon after the attack.

There are a lot of Government regulation about who can be contracted (truckers) to haul mail. It has to do with contracts and such.

I also mailed packages this moring with no problems

I mailed packages yesterday and today with no problems. Though to be honest I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that the package was going to be held.

I had no problem mailing my packages today. Though when they move from the post office is another story.

I could entirely understand the post office refusing to accept Express mail or something like that, but in general, I don't see why they'd refuse to take all packages unless they run out of room to store them.

I mailed 10 packages without any problem on my lunch hour. I am putting a note in my EOA notices & other buyer contact emails about possible delays due to this event - and hoping we can all be patient.

My post office in NJ also would not take any packages today. They said it was because the planes aren't flying. I asked if it would be possible for me to have them processed and just sit at the PO until they could be shipped and they told me no, so I dragged them all home again. If anyone hears when they are taking mail again please post it here.

Just got back a bit ago and was told that all packages are considered target mail and have to be checked before they can ship out due to bomb scares. Don't know how they are doing this.

I mailed a small shippment out this afternoon, after first checking with the post office to make sure they were accepting mail. They said that media mail and such would still go through, but Priority and Express would be delayed. This was in Spring Hill, Florida.

Hello everyone,

I live on the California coast, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Took a few packages to my local PO yesterday and they accepted them.

However, I asked one of the resident clerks, who's known to have a sense of humor, when they would go out. His answer? "I don't know!" Hmmm....

Anyway, there are a couple of announcements on the PO website.

Looks like there will be some delays but the mail is going to be sent out ground until the planes can get back in the air.

I'm letting my buyers know there will likely be some delay in receiving their item. So far all have responded with understanding.

"I live in upstate NY and was told that they cannot accept any Express Mail packages, "

A small Mass. PO was accepting express mail tues after the fact but marking it "delivery [time] not guaranteed".

I wish the POs could at least be consistent.

The news here reported packages that must go further than 600 miles will incur delays as that mail is normally flown. Anything under 600 miles will be trucked. Not sure if that means items going further than 600 miles will be held or trucked the distance.

Long Branch, NJ accepted my packages this afternoon. No comments about when they'll be mailed either.
