Did I hear this right? I just heard on ABC news that the new government regulations state that there will be no more packages on airplanes. If this is so, how do we mail packages, or does this mean no more Priority Mail?

I could be entirely wrong on this but I always thought priority packages were subcontracted out to firms that had their own planes. Previously Emory airfreight had the contract and I believe another contractor took over recently. Does anyone have this answer?

Probably they mean no packages on passenger planes. I thought this was already the case, though.

I was told once that the PO has contracts with commercial passenger(UNITED, for sure) and freight airliners to carry packages. Based on todays news the commercial passenger airliners (United etc) will NOT be allowed to transport packages. This type of transportation was used when the PO needed them and they had the space.

American Airlines also carried a lot of packages for the US Mail including Express & Priority.

FedEx has a contract with USPS to carry USPS mail, including packages. FedEx will also be putting their drop boxes in some post offices--and one post office I use is very, very happy about that, which I find somewhat odd.

Fedex's new contract has them carrying Express Mail during the evening, and Priority Mail/First Class mail during daytime flights.

What I don't know is what percentage of the package mail (esp. Priority) will be carried by FedEx, and if USPS still is using the commercial airline fleet as well.

I work for the PO at an Air Mail Center. Currently we have contracted to fly a large bulk of mail (Priority, first class, and express) by Fedex A LOT of mail is trucked (even Priority). We also contract to fly mail on all major airlines United,American, Northwest,US Airways, America West, Southwest, Continental, and Spirit. It is possible the FAA will not let us fly on commercial airlines. During the Gulf War they would not accept mail unlesss bomb sniffing dogs cleared them first. I think if that happens, what Fedex can't handle will be trucked. If it gets really bad they also can contract with other cargo carriers to
fly mail(they did this during the Gulf war also)

Before it is over everyone will have to strip naked and put on an Airline jumpsuit to fly.

I don't see anything on the Sea-Tac site about no carry-ons. Here's what it says:

The newly reenacted security measures include:
No curbside check-in for baggage. All bags will need to be checked with the airlines inside the terminal.
No parking or waiting on the drives. This will be vigorously enforced.
Only ticketed passengers will be allowed past the security checkpoints. Travelers will have to present a ticket to enter any of the concourses or South & North Satellites.
Carry-on baggage may be subject to search.
No knives (of any kind or size) will be allowed through the security checkpoints.

Nothing on local news about no carry-ons, either. I'm 15 minutes south of SeaTac.
