With the mails in the shape they are in I just considered something.

There may be a lot of charge backs on credit card purchases due to late arriving items.

I am considering going check and MO only until the mails get straightened out.

I would rather wait for a payment than deal with chage backs, it is much easier.

Anybody else consider this problem ?

Since most of my buyers are intelligent and understanding, I'm not worrying about chargebacks due to slow mail.

I'm not changing the way I do business one bit. I'm already pretty patient about payment times, so that doesn't need to change. And I'll continue take credit cards. Fortunately, about 90% of my sales are books, so my customers as a general rule know how to read.

I did start a small change in my "item shipped" notes to my Amazon customers stating that media mail normally takes about 7-21 days and that I request their patience if due to current flight restrictions their book takes a little longer to arrive. I don't consider that a change really, as I've also added things of that nature when my area gets a lot of snow.

If you're worried though, cya (cover your a**) - it probably won't hurt too much.

you can not initiate a chargeback until 30 days have past. the mail will be back to normal in 7 days or so.......no reason to get paranoid and let that paranoia spread to the other nervous nellies on this board

why are there always these type posts that blow things up larger than they are or will be....time to get out a bit don't ya think!

I think the worry is unnecessary. I have been sending and receiving mail every day, without fail, and the postal service has implemented alternative plans to be sure the mail is delivered.

I think the postal service employees and management should be commended for their steadfastness. The only place in the whole country where deliveries have been stopped is below 14th Street in Manhattan.

On a personal note, I realized after the first day that I was allowing the excessive tv coverage to paralize me. No more. Isn't that a way of giving into the terrorists?

So, remembering Londoners during the blitz in WWII as my model, I am keeping a stiff upper lip and getting on with the business of living, muttering silent prayers as I go.

I have mailed every day and had deliveries made daily since Monday. Depending on how far the package goes, it may take a day long but all packages ARE being delivered. There's no reason to do any different from your normal procedures for mailing and delivery, any one with an inkling of a brain will understand if a package doesn't show up immediately. I was told here at our local PO that packages not going by air now but being shipped VIA la old fashion trunk. Delays should be minimal

My understanding is that mail sent to a destination within a 600-mile radius is getting there as normal.

I've also heard, though, that there are significant delays for destinations farther than that.

edited to add that I recall where I heard this -- in an email from half-com to its users to encourage patience during the delays.

There are no international flights coming in. No mail on domestic flights. All mail is moving by trucks - if it's moving at all.

You don't think this will cause severe delivery delays as volume picks up ? Some of our items that were on planes are grounded at airports all over N America waiting for trucks.

What this has done is bring the mails to a pre-WW I footing.
