Boy, do I have a great idea (but I'm sure you fellow AW'ers will let me know if it is or not). I have left 762 feedbacks and received 573 since starting on eBay. I'm sure the ratio is similar for everyone else, but WHAT IF eBay had a page that would you show you all the transactions for which YOU were not left feedback by others yet? Kinda like the one that shows all the ones YOU haven't left yet, except the opposite. Then you could gently remind them to please leave feedback (unless the deal went south- you know which deals those are!)

ebay says feedback is optional. Personally, I never beg for feedback, never have, never will. Yes I do ask that feedback be left in my item shipped notice and also on my packing slip. But I would never send an email asking for feedback after that.

ebay feedback is not worth any $$$. It is not like with the more feedback you have you get any kind of breaks. So what is the big deal.

I do like to see my feedback go up and I do like when I get a new star But think about it, is the high number worth you time to email and beg for it? Not for me it is not.

I can see a newbie wanting and begging for feedback that is deserved but you have hundreds already, a few more will not get you anything. I do not understand why you would want to bother the bidder.

Please explain why you feel the feedback is beneficial? Why is it worth your time to beg for it?

It would be nice if some people waited until you got home from work before they leave a complaint in you feedback of not be contacted when the auction just ended today.

RichieRich, I can see where you're coming from, but on some eBay sales you may just break even (or even lose $$). At least you could get a feedback point for your trouble. I mean, you left them feedback, why can't they return the favor? You said you would never "beg" for feedback. The way I request it, it's not begging. I simply ask them to leave it for me if they were happy w/the trans., & I even provide the feeback link eBay has on the item page for them. It's kind of a mind game eBay plays with us, but it is kinda neat to see your star change from red to blue...

Although this is a bit off-topic, I'd like some help here.

I faithfully leave feedback for every one of my buyers upon receipt of payment. And for every one of my sellers when I receive the item. Most of the time, that is.

Today I received an item. In the seller's TOS she says she will only leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback for her. She says this is because 3 out of 5 don't leave feedback.

OK, this is fine. She runs her business her way and I run mine the way I want to.

However, in each and every communication between her and me, she has reiterated her "requirements" for feedback. There was even a little slip attached to the item requesting feedback.

Because of her nagging, I doubt I'll even let her know I received the item, much less leave her feedback.

Any thoughts? Input?

Juan, I think I'd rather see an indication of the total number of transactions for an eBayer.

I have been dealing on Carnaby since July was delighted to discover that they have a built in feature that allows you to check to see if you have left feedback for all of your transactions. I pride myself on 'always' leaving feedback, but once I started to use this tool I found that I had overlooked some. I would like to see eBay implement a similar feature, as I think it would go a long way to helping those who were serious about giving and receiving feedback.

Feedback probably does have some value, though it's impossible to quantify since the online business model is so new.

If you sell your ebay userid and the business behind it someday, wouldn't you want, say, 30% more positive feedbacks when it comes time to measure "goodwill"?

On your second posting... that is a solid idea. Seeing how many transactions the seller has been involved in as a Seller or a Buyer would be a much better indication of their performance. It would be a much better indicator for the customer.

You could keep the feedback around for personal comments on the user, but you could also balance those comments with successful transactions. Doesn't paypal.com do that now?

It is a start, but a much better indicator. I have heard some sellers report as low as 25% of their transactions leave feedback. They might have 250 feedback, but if they have had 1000 successful transactions, that would tell you something more.

There is software that does that for you. It's part of a suite called Auction Magic from PCtechzone.

I agree completely. In a way, I'm more interested in the buyer/seller's experience level than on their actual feedback number. In my own case, I have 46 more positive feedbacks than the total reflects. This is because feedback from repeat transactions doesn't increase the total.

There are a lot of people who don't leave feedback at all and many who leave only positives.

Who knows why? Maybe they don't know how. Maybe the item or seller/buyer didn't meet their expectations so they decided if they couldn't say something nice it was better to say nothing at all. I've done that myself in a few instances.

I wonder how difficult it would be for eBay to add just one line to the ID Card screen to show total transactions for the different time periods...

I have mixed feelings about the item count. It could be messy - would it lower when you do a FVF? Or would it indicate all items listed - sold or not?

A bidder could look at that two ways. I have sold over 3000 items. I have 1352 counted feedback - 1738 positive, 1352 unique; 2 neutrals and 1 neg. I leave feedback upon shipping 99% of the time.
As a buyer I would wonder WHY a seller with 3000 items only has 1352 feedback? Were the others not good transactions so the buyer left none? Newbie do not understand the feedback all the time anyway, this could confuse them. They may think this is a BAD indication for the seller.

Personally as a buyer I like to look and see how many repeat customers - in my case it is just about at 400. As a buyer I would not hesitate to buy from someone that has that many repeat customers. If a seller has NO repeat customers, I might wonder about it, unless they are new.
