A folk artist on ebay has changed all the titles of her paintings to add the word "American" folk art in front of all her titles.
These are the same pictures that she had listed on september 10 but she changed the name the day after the bombings.
Is this patriotism or commercialism?
I am curious because I an a folk artist too. In the past I have used the word "Americana" to describe a painting that has a flag or some other national symbol in it.The only thing I paint is American landscapes.
I won't be listing for a week more at least I am just too shook up. But when I do I will have more paintings with flags than usual. It just makes me feel better right now to paint them.
But seeing what this woman has done I am really afraid how it will be percieved.
Can I get some feedback on this.

I, of course, don't know the person but if I were to guess as to their intentions I would guess that their motivation was commercialistic. That isn't just because they used the word 'American', but because of the coincidence (?) of having added that word the day after the disaster...
It is interesting that after the attack the seller did revise the title but it could be just a coincidence. Doesn't "American" Folk Art have a higher market value or demand than other folk art?

my question to you is why??? why do you ask this question to anyone but that artist. no one here can answer why she did anything. all you can get here is aome floks questioning her tactics which i suspect will make you feel good in some manner.
