Hi all ~ I registered my .com domain name through Register.com, which is fine but expensive. Now, to protect my interests, I'm interested in registering all the other suffixes of the name, for instance:
...org, ...net, ...biz, etc. For obvious reasons, though, I don't want to spend a lot of money.
It'll cost $19.99 per name through Register.com. Is there a better/cheaper service that would protect me just as well? And are there any complications in separating your domain names between companies?

Use a search engine (my fav is Google) and look up register domain name. You will get lots of sites, and I know that some of them are around $15.00. You may even find some for cheaper.
You shouldn't have any problems because you are registering through different services. The registration all goes to the same place and is maintained by one company, who ironically are one of the higher priced registers.

Hi,
I use gandi.net for my domain names. If you just wanted them registered so nobody else uses them you could use one of the free services like namezero (if they're still around).

If you actually want to use those other names (and you could set up a simple page to redirect everything to your .com site),check out fatcow.com
Low registration fee, low annual website fee.

Registration costs $8.95/yr at http://www.godaddy.com
I'm not sure how speedy GoDaddy is though. I paid for a transfer of a existing registration (and extension of registration for one year) a week ago and GoDaddy doesn't seem to have processed it yet. (Does anyone know if that type of delay is normal?)

I know when I registered my personal domain name, it took a few days for it to show up as "taken" and then a few days more for the name to actually point to my site. I'm sorry, but I don't remember how long it took exactly.

I just went through Network Solutions to get a couple of domain names handed over to us as the "registrant". Their normal time is 3 to 6 weeks unless you want to pay $200.00 to get it done in 2 days for each domain name.
You might be waiting a couple of more weeks... they all do go through the same place.
