This may be an stupid question but I've just gotten my first Canadian money order. It was issued by Canada Post as in USD. Can I cash this at a USPO?
I feel silly having to ask but I really have no idea. I've never dealt with foreign money orders before.

There is an 800 # on the M.O. If your local P.O. doesn't honor it, have the post master call that 800 # and he can get the U.S. regs regarding it. Your bank should honor it just like a U.S. M.O., but then some banks grab every 50c or $ they can, sometimes justifiably, but not in this case.

Some times I feel like I single-handedly got my local Post office used to this. When I first started turning them in, I got puzzled looks, consultations behind the desk, and once or twice I've reminded them to look them up in a book they have of bad Canadian money orders. Lately they seem to just run them through the machine like a regular check.

Not really on topic but the USPS will cash Japanese postal money orders too. A really good thing because about the only English on the money order was my name.

Our bank cashed one, but the next time I had one in a deposit, they said they could not accept it. It seems that their parent bank has to collect on these regular CA mo's if they do not have the 9-digit routing numbers, and they refuse to mess with it if it is under $200.00. For that reason they sent the mo back to my local branch for them to deal with. I believe the mo's marked "International" have the correct routing numbers.
