I have a Toshiba PDR-M4 camera. It has worked great for more than a year - under Windows 98 and ME. I installed Windows 2000 earlier in the week - I went to download the pictures from my camera.... guess what won't work now? Argh!
Anyone have a Toshiba camera using Windows 2000?? If so, how did you get it to work?

I don't have a Toshiba camera, but I have an idea. Try going to the Toshiba web site and see if there is an update for your camera software that you can download. Maybe it will work with Win2000.

Hi,
I had the same problem with the same camera when we upgraded our windows to 2000. I have to go off to work now but will happily discuss what we did to get it working when I get home later tonight. I have to say it was a pain though and took some work. Got to run or I will be late. -S

Hi MurphyBird,
You can upgrade the software in your camera by going to Toshiba and downloading the upgrade onto your computer. Then you use your usb cable and follow the directions they give you (I recommend printing them out to have it for reference) to transfer the information to your camera. It took us trying about 30 times for it to finally take. You will now be able to load the pictures. Unfortunately there are some problems that you might now have. The Toshiba Image expert photo software that comes with the camera doesn't work as well on Windows 2000 as it did before. On our computer if you open a file of pictures in Toshiba Image Expert and then click on the X in the corner to close the file, the error debug message pops up and you have to close the whole program. So it really is impossible to use. We installed another photo editor program to use instead (ACDSee)but unfortunately it does not recognize the connection to the camera so now I have to load the images through Toshiba Image Expert and then transfer them to the other program to do editing (if I want to go between files of pictures easily). The point is that you may need to get a new photo editor program that you can load photos to and then edit them freely without the debug error locking you up. I wasn't able to get that from the Toshiba website. I haven't gotten around to writing Toshiba to find out if they will send me an updated image expert program for Windows 2000(if they have one).
There is also another annoying thing that we have discovered (as if the image editing program problems weren't enough!) Before we did the "upgrade", an image of the picture would stay on the LCD screen for a few seconds after taking a picture and show you the image it just took. Now there isn't a few seconds of the image. You have to switch over to DISPLAY mode see how the picture you just took turned out (Another thing to write to Toshiba about).
Please Email if you have any questions. [email protected]

Sounds like you would be better off sticking to windows 98. I've used mine with windows 95 with no problems for 3 years.

Amen to that! I really wish we had stayed with Windows 98. Our friends who work for Intel all say they prefer 98 because they think it has fewer bugs. I haven't asked our Microsoft friends yet, but now I am curious.
