Well I have started receiveing some odd complaints about Items that I shipped out Just after 9/11/01 .

Buyer Just now wrote and told me the cassette tape I shipped them dont work the music is not under standable and at many point there is no sound at all.

is it posible that some of our packages are going through Xraymachines or some other type of magnetic devices.

I tested this tape here many times before it was even listed and before it shipped and all worked fine.

Also any one else shipped tape of any type getting the same problems ???

Funny that you brought this up, I had a buyer contact me the other day, I sold them a brand new VHS movie, still in original shrinkwrap, they sat down to watch it and the tape was blank. I was dumbfounded, my only option was to refund their money, I assumed it was a manufacturers defect. Now I wonder.

Same thing happened to me! Shipped SIX brand new videos still in the factory shrink wrap. Was told by buyer that the color was very poor and no sound on any of the tapes.

I, too, was going to refund.

Now I wonder just what our responsibility is to the buyers. Part of me says refund the money, but another part of me says "Hey, it's not my fault!

Decisions, decisions.

OK this is getting weird. Does anyone know for sure if xrays/magnets or anything else can really destroy a tape? This is scaring me, I send out at least 100 tapes a week.

Yes X ray machines and magnets and metal detectors can wipe out in part or in full any thing recorded on tape it can also wipe out floppys and computer harddrives

Yes, if the tape is within 3 inches (if memory serves me that is the amoutn of inches), a magnet will descramble a tape. We have a demagnitizer that gets full tapes cleared up for retaping. That's why it's always wise not to store magents near your zip disks or hard drives.

Well I know the way the Music clubs Ship out tapes they ship in light card board and the Item is actually visable seems there would be no need to xray these not sure if this is a wise way for use to ship but I don't think things are going to change away from security no time soon.

or many have to start shipping cassette tapes in larger boxes the tape I shipped was in a bubble envelope..

You need to put on all these packages "WARNING: Magnetic Media. Do Not X-RAY."
This way the Post Office will know what it is screwing up...

we all thought and talked about increased security in every other area but this one (smack my forhead).

I know we erase our typing tapes at work with a device something like a metal detector, just big enough to slide the tape back and forth through it.

I work at the USPS at an airmail facility and to my knowledge no mail is being scanned like that. Anything over 16 oz is going on Fedex planes or trucks.

That's not to say it hasn't happened elsewhere.

We repossed all mail on the 11 th and 12th so it shouldn't have been in the hands of the airlines.

Believe me , the PO has no equipment to scan mail (this came up before during the Gulf War)

Odd that so many have had problems.

As I said, I can't speak for elsewhere

Well not sure it happened at the post office at all I just know the tape I sent was working great just before I put it in the package and sent it.

When it arrived it didnt work for the buyer I have no reason to doubt there word.

I guess you can't win them all and a refund or two over the year is to hard to handle concidering the situation guess send these item will call for even more care then would normally be nessary

The airlines here are only accepting letters and "flats" (manilla envelope size letters.) Other than the PO the only one handling mail is Fedex.

maybe they're afraid someone will blow up their planes?

It is odd everyone having problems at once
are you all by any chance in the same area?
