HEADS UP guys!!! I was just listing an auction through ebay, when my norton scan came up (I have it on real-time protection, as I am online constantly) saying that the nimda virus was found. I had hit the back button from the preview page to fix a typo in my description. My description was gone, everything but the picture was gone. And up in the corner was a box from NAV saying the NIMDA virus was found in an html page in my cache. I had been nowhere but ebay.

Yes, it's at the announcement board also - not the virus, info about the virus, how to clean it up, etc.

***Alert for iPix Users***

iPix, the third party provider of eBay Photo Services, has informed us that anyone using the iPix photo hosting service late this afternoon may have contracted the Nimda computer virus. eBay users who have posted photos using this service using the Sell Your Item form today should click here to clean their system of the virus. For more information on Nimda and this removal tool, click here. Those users who simply viewed items posted using this service will not be
affected.

Until we have confirmed that the situation has been resolved, eBay Photo Services will not be available. We are working with iPix to
correct this issue and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Regards,
eBay

Yeah its on the board anyone who used ebay photo hosting putting up auctions should download the program and run a clean up on there computers.

when you go and read about the clean up tool it warns that cleaning up the virus might not be the end of the problem hacker may have install back doors into your computer and even changed or stole password and other infomation as well your computer may have been used for other dirty deeds on the internet remotely.

I'm confused....if I launch auctions from AW and store my pics with them....is that the same?

Also, how does eBay KNOW for sure that you can't get the virus simply by logging into their site & viewing an item? I thought that was one of the ways you could pick up this virus, just by going into an infected site.

With the sometimes dubious knowledge eBay techs have generally, I would think caution should really be exercised until it is very clear the site is safe.

no if you use aw its not the same as useing I pix.

They can be sure people viewing auctions are not infected because you dont need to down load an exe file to view

The virus was carried in the activeX tool they install to your computer and use to upload files..

Has Ebay started charging fees yet for providing the virus?

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Wow! I'm so glad I don't use Ipix anymore! The only good thing I can say about it is that it's a great tool for newbies because it's so easy to use. Those Ipix pictures were so bad that it didn't take me long to figure out AW is the place to be. Anyone ever used an Ipix picture for the gallery? Pathetic is the word that comes to mind to describe one of those pics.

I will now think of Ipix pictures as Nimduh pictures.

Assistance?

"Until we have confirmed that the situation has been resolved, eBay Photo Services will not be available."

Does this mean those who had ongoing auctions from the weekend using IPIX were pictureless during those couple days?

Also, can someone tell me where to look to see which version of IExplorer I'm using? I saw the links for patchs on another thread, but am not sure which version I'm using at this time.

To find out which version of IE you are using, go to "Help", then "About Internet Explorer". When the box comes up, you'll be able to see which version you are using.

From viruses, maybe. From thieves? Nope.
