I just got an email from an auction I won and the seller says due to recent events the mail has slowed down and she did not get her shipment. What is that nonsense? How could she sell something she did not have? It is a lapel pin of an American Flag. I seriously doubt that the mail is slow. There is just a huge demand for these. I wonder why she thinks I paid this price if I could get one anywhere? Do any of you sell things you have on order, but have not received? You better believe she is looking at a big neg from me. I told her I would give her a week, but I paid already. Bad business practice, IMHO.

Did the auction say anything about not having all items on hand? If not, she is dead wrong. I can see listing something you might not have on hand IF YOU STATE THAT UPFRONT IN THE AUCTION. Otherwise, I would consider that auction void and I would request my money back. Did you pay by credit card (I hope??)?

If you were not advised in the auction that this was a pre-sale then that is total BS.

I would neg her big time.

If it's a "pre-sale" (selling what you don't have yet), ebay has special rules about it.

I wouldn't sell like this, to many chances of problems.

Yes, the mail still is slow, especially mail that must travel across country. I still have items out that have not arrived after being mailed Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation two weeks ago.

How long ago were these auctions listed? Perhaps the seller expected the shipment to arrive days before the auctions ended... and the shipment is indeed late. Perhaps the seller's supplier was late in shipping due to the demand -- and did not notify the seller, or used the slow mail reason to him/her.

Is this little flag pin that darned important to you? Didn't we, as a nation, learn any real life lessons from the horrific events of September 11?

Isn't it time that we Americans were all a little nicer to each other? A little more understanding? Another big bunch of us might not be here tomorrow.

Or is it really, as the saying goes, "all about me."

Are these pins that she is making? I sell them and places I have had overnight orders (of parts) from are way behind. Pin backs and parts are hard to come by. Maybe (and she shouldn't have) she expected overnight delivery, and it just isn't happening. I wouldn't put anything up I didn't have in hand, but I do know some people do. Does she expect to ship to you soon? I guess, now that the harm is done, that the one good part, is that she didn't string you along, and just came out and told you : (

If something is a dropship on eBay, or one of those deals where you sell before you get, do you have to say that on eBay?

While I do agree there should have been something in the listing ad, saying it was a pre-sale.................... have a heart !!!!!!!!!!, "WE" all make mistakes, and hopefully "we" all learn from them. She made a mistake, forgive her, and get on with life. Life is too short. as sept 11, showed us all. ................. I do make mistakes, and I am so very happy for my buyers, as they have a heart, and they also have understanding, and forgiveness.

Yes. Check the link I posted.

Hi everyone,

I sent a package on 9/25/01, priority mail with delivery confirmation, from San Luis Obispo, California, to Columbus, Ohio. It was scanned in SLO on 9/25, next scan was on 9/27, 200 miles away in Southern California.

It arrived in Columbus today, 10/3/01. Eight days after I sent it.

Looks like the mail is still slow. My suspicion is they are x-raying or otherwise checking all packages (this was a kinda big one...) and it's holding up everything.

Naturally this was going to a nervous buyer. At least he was nice enuf to let me know it did finally arrive.

Lucy

I can vouch for the mail being slow. Packages that used to take 1-2 days (DFW near me is a major USPS sort hub) is taking 3-10 days or longer. Even regular letters are moving slower.

As for selling something she didn't have - it happens. I have a very reliable supplier and I have placed auctions for items not physically in my possession, because I am confident that the supplier will come through before the auction ends. But if for some reason the supplier can't supply, then obviously no item can be shipped and bad on me.

Now in the case of flag/patriotic items, you would have hoped that your seller might realize the HIGH HIGH demand and not sell stuff she didn't have in hand. But not all sellers are as bright as we here on AW ...

I wouldn't leave a neg. Stuff happens.

Sale item needs to be shipped to you within 30 days of your auction payment's receipt by the seller. Otherwise neg and file a complaint with Safeharbor. 30 days is the federal law limit on items for mail order which is essentially the deal here.

Assuming you could or did pay instantly when the auction closed, they must be able to ship in 30 days.

Hi all --
I haven't posted before -- just read the threads -- but I felt I needed to comment on this. I agree with "vargas" on this. While she should have had the item on hand mistakes do happen. I have had unforseen problems come up occasionally with my > 1000 sales, and thankfully, upon full explanations to my customers, they have been understanding. I have returned the favor to my sellers too. "What goes around comes around" is really true. I definitely would NOT leave a neg over this. It wasn't intentional for sure. In the grand scheme of things, where does the importance of this flag pin fall? Aren't you going to wear it to show support for your country and the people within? Just let her know that you are disappointed (if you must)but you understand the delay and that you appreciate her being up front with you. It will make you feel better I'm sure.
Been there done that myself ------

Ok, yes I paid by credit card, which really is not the point.

Vargas, I guess this has really changed your outlook? I remember some pretty harsh statements from you a few times.

Anyway, her answer to my email admitted she should not have sold something she did not have in her hand and was worded so well that I felt somewhat appeased and have agreed to give her more time. She did offer a refund. I bet she never does it again, and I did not come down too hard on her. Sounds like a very good seller, even if she did make a bad judgment call this time. I hope she does well, and I will wait for the item.

SO THERE!!!

LOL

Yes, it has served as a very graphic reminder of how short life is. I knew one of the people on the plane that slammed into the Pentagon. I also lost my oldest and dearest friend this year. Life is too short to be mean to other people... especially over small material things.

I will, however, continue to be tough on corporations. And you likely will continue to see harsh statements from me when it comes to corporate actions.

Most corporate entities in America today hold very little value in human beings.

Vargas, watch out. Don't give up the edge.

Sorry to hear how closely you were touched by this tradgedy.

I could not agree more. And as much as I am tempted to get on the soapbox and spell out examples, from ebay to the airlines, I will resist.

I'm glad to hear that other people are experiencing slow mail. I have 2 international bidders whose auctions ended almost 3 weeks ago. They both swear up and down that payment was sent, one is sending a 2nd MO airmail something or other (I dont' really care about how things are sent, as long as I get the payments!). And they have both been in contact with me. I figure the situation is too coincidental to NOT be true.

The only neg I ever got was from a lady enraged that I had "the nerve" to ask for a refund after 2 months and she still could not ship.

These people think the sun doesn't come up in the morning if they are not wtaching - totally self centered.

Just to update you all, (and let Vargas know I am thinking of Him/Her)

I got an email that my item was on the way. This seller has left positive feedback for me, and I will leave it for them. They made a bad decision, but worked really hard to right it, and spent way more time than I paid for. They deserve the credit. Hard workers. Of course I am banking on the fact that it really is on the way. Thanks for the advice and I am glad I did not act negatively. Happy Ending, all is well.
