Love to find new stuff, but there's always a few things I'm not sure of. Can anyone help?

What do you call these sweet little puppies? "Foo dogs" keeps popping in my head when I try to think, but I don't believe that's right.

And what distinguishes a Breyer horse? I vaguely remember something about their having a hole in them (but so do others?). Are they made in Japan?

Thanks!

The ones on top are indeed foo dogs, also called "shi-shi dogs" in some circles.

Hi GC2-here is a neat website for Breyer Horses. They are made of hard plastic and the detailing is excellent. They are quite collectible.

Your horsey looks Porcelain. Very cute, but not Breyer.

Foo Dogs.

Breyer does make a limited porcelain series but this isn't it. Breyers don't have holes in them. Most have a circular stamp inside the leg w/the Breyer name (though some very early ones didn't have the stamp).

Japanese pieces are still nicely collected in most animal styles.
