I brought packages to my hallmark, where I go always for mailing and the priority mail prices were .40 higher above the 2lb rate.
I questioned the clerk and she said there was a price increase. I came home and checked usps website and it doesn't show. Plus there are no messages on this board about it.
So I called up the hallmark and asked if it was a store charge or actual usps increase and she said it was usps increase.
I find this strange, usually we get a notice. Anyone else notice this increase?

Joyce, just over to the website too. There are no increases at this time!
Time to find a new place to mail packages. Can you scoot back and demand your packages back and a refund? They have swindled you. That store must be getting testy with eBayers!

I work for the Post Office.
NO POSTAL INCREASES!
The place you take them must be adding on a handleing charge.
Call and talk to the person in charge and try to get the straight of it. If they insist it is an acctual postage increase REPORT them to the Post Master General.

jlady, they are full of it and I wouldn't deal with anyone who lied to me. We use Endicia for all of our postal metering and we would have had an update to our software at least a week before the "change" to allow a rate change to kick in on the proper day. Needless to say, there is no rate change.
I'd suggest you go back to the place where you shipped and speak directly to the person who told you on the phone that there was a rate increase. Then hand her the receipt and tell her to refund the overcharges for the non-existant postage rate increase. I bet their story changes.

Don't most of these sort of places add a handling fee? Sort of like Mailboxes Etc?
Hallmark is the card store, right?
I used to ship UPS from an office supply store and they always added about $2.00 onto my packages, but it was a 60 mile round trip to the UPS counter so I didn't mind. Bet these people are adding a fee as well.

I knew something was fishy. The hallmarks in Vegas have been offering postal svcs for a couple of months at no extra handling fees.
The funny thing is the clerk said it wasn't a handling fee and the prices went up. I am going to go in on Monday and talk to the manager and get a refund on the overcharge, I can't imagine they would all of a sudden start charging a handling fee without advising customers, especially me, they know me!!

Hi.
A few Hallmarks in my area (Seattle's Eastide) have post office counters and don't charge extra. I think the employees there must be trying to get rid of you. Report them to the local Post Office. I had trouble at a local Pharmacy that had an offical Post Office Substation, they wouldn't put the total including insurance on the package and customers thought I was ripping them off. The place charged me but the sticker on the package only had the postage. Needles to say I just go the regular Post Office now.

JLADY - Can you post exactly what they charged you and weight. 40 cents - are you sure they did not accidentally add in Delivery Confirm.

No, the next possible domestic rate increase won't be until September of 2002 - The USPS just submitted the request, and it takes about 10 months to go through the process of approval. The next rate increase will be steep, but it is about a year away.
However, they do have the ability to modify non domestic rates at any time.
