I recently bought a vintage 8-track player and when I finally got it after almost 3 weeks (it was shipped FED-EX Gound)it didn't work properly.
I contacted the seller and he wrote that it was Fed-Ex's problem now and asked me to return the unit, which I did. I only paid $30.00 for this item, but I also paid shipping of $15.00 each way.
Just today (8 weeks later) I got a refund check from the seller, but it was only for the original $30.00. Shouldn't I have received at least the cost of shipping one way?
I have never dealt with any damaged and returned item before, what should have been the proper procedure?

Did you have to send it back using FedEx?
It sounds like you paid $30 for the item and $30 for shipping both ways. You got half of
your money back. I suppose you could leave a neutral if you were still angry about paying for shipping both ways. Be happy though that
you got some money back.
Whether or not a seller pays for return shipping (I have, by the way.) is his or her
choice and it's hard to say what the proper procedure is. Perhaps the seller is simply trying to prevent a lot of people
having buyer's remourse and returning items for
invalid reasons (unlike your valid reason).

Had you asked the seller questions before you sent the item back, you would have known if it was worth returning it.
I agree with professorhiggins that some sellers will give a refund for shipping costs and some will not.
It sounds like your seller kept his/her word to you.
I would give them a Positive!

if the seller feels it is his fault or his mistake (like he shipped the wrong item),or you are an important/repeated customer,he may pay shipping both ways.
seller is not obigated to pay for return shipping,it is better to ask first before you return the item.
since it is shipped fed ex and the seller said it is fed exp fault, why did you not contact fed exp and file a claim with them??

You should contact the seller. I believe that if you did not like the item and wanted a refund (and he was willing to give one) then you should be responsible for the shipping charges. However, if the item was defective, the seller should be held responsible. I know a lot of sellers don't feel that way, but I consider those unprofessional who I would not do business with if I knew their policy.
