I am an ebay powerseller, and am thinking of expanding my product line. I currently sell magazine subsciptions, and am considering selling VCD's (Video CD's). I have a supplier in Maylasia who I've cut a good deal with.

My question is this..... Has anyone had trouble getting shipments from their overseas suppliers, and does ebay cause any problems for VCD sellers at all? Keep in mind that these are legitimate VCD relesases, not pirated, 2nd rate copies.

Thanks for the help, AW fans.

I've been selling these for awhile and the only problem I've had is low closing bids. Other than that, I've received things pretty quickly from Malaysia (though my last big order was prior to the Sept. 11 tragedy). DHL seems to be a popular shipper especially with Asia.

Good Luck.

A big hint for someone that is selling VCD and SVCDs, design your auction so no one can bid with out seeing in that they are not DVDs and that they will only play on the Asian PS2(the grey one) and not R1 one.

I have gotten 10 negitive feedbacks from this even after I made the words "NOT A DVD" blink in red over the bid box. I sugest that you mention it in the WBN and that if the seller wants to back out let them.

Help me out. I'm electronically challanged. I know what a DVD is. What's the difference between it and a VCD and SVCD?

mrlatenite: Just a note, you were good right up to MPEG1 being satellite quality. Take a look at the specs of digital satellite receivers. They are decoding MPEG2 not 1 streams. MPEG1 is equivalent to a good VHS quality such as a released tape. SVCD is better but not worth the reduction of the limited time a CD-R yeilds.

"and a DVD holds up to 4.6 gig (double sided),"

Actually single sided.

I go to indonesia all the time , and buy vcd's. When on buying trips, what makes you think they are really? If would like to take a picture of the vcd...i can tell you if they are real in second. It has somthing to do with the center of the vcd and what is writen and what is not writen on the inside of the vcd

There is a lot of stuff available on VCD that is not available in the USA, and the record companies are completely aware of that. They want to control what can be sold and bought in the USA.

In fact, the one VCD that I have says on it, for "domestic" viewing only, referring of course to Asia. I don't know if it is explicitly illegal to originate the sale of these items from the USA but I'd take a hard look, particularly before buying hundreds or thousands of them.

Sort of like how Disney is always shutting down auctions for Song of the South. That video is not licensed for sale in the US and they absolutely do not want anyone in the USA to view that video.

I don't know anything about VCD's but when I was selling a collection of CED's I noticed the bids increased dramatically when I added to the description "Save on shipping ... each additional CED only 99 cents shipping".
That worked really well ... and I had many customers who bought 10 or more, shipped them UPS, and everyone was happy.

Good luck to you!
