I would encourage you to continue to live your life and conduct your business as you always have. If you let fear and terror consume you, then the terrorists have achieved their objective.

I firmly believe that if your number is up that there is nothing you can do to change it, so live life the best way you can.

You should stop accepting ALL MAIL. You never know when one of those envelopes you receive might give you a nasty papercut on your finger, which could then be infected when you reach into your sink to unclog the garbage disposal. You then might pass that infection to your child while changing her diaper, and WHAM, she's got brain cancer!

In other words, don't be ridiculous.

What we really have to worry about (as sellers) that the buyers will not get so worried that they will not order anything via the mail.

Yes, and quite soon we will all have to put on a rubber suit and rubber gloves and a gas mask when we open our mail.

Anthrax will be on all the paper currency so each day I will have to suit up before I can stand at my counter to wait on my customers.

The panic is spreading and the media is running with it and I agree that it is all getting a bit ridiculous.

Of course not. Many people get shot everyday, but you don't go around wearing a bulletproof vest, do you?

Even if the payment is coated in anthrax, at least they paid.

There in lies a great promo tool for e-payments!

I would imagine that soon we'll be coming across TOS's that read something like......

"Due to the recent terrorist actions involving possible mail contaminations we will only be accepting Billpoint, PayPal or BidPay as a means of payment."

Since about 90% of our auctions are paid via PP, 2% personal check & 3% are NPB, that only leaves about 5% of our payments to be received as money orders.
That and the fact that I am not yet a really 'public' figure I feel pretty safe.

(however I will be reaching my red star in a little while...... ....)

How easily the terrorists terrorize.

I think they are depending on this to achieve their goals.

I am going into Boston today, and will have dinner at the Top of the Hub, ride the subway, shop in crowded stores and attend the movies.

I am an American who will not allow them to run my life, or make a paranoic fool out of me.

And I thought it would be the buyers that would panic. I will be really pissed if sellers did actually start taking issue with receiving mail! Straighten up and fly right!!! You stand a much better chance of dying in a car than croaking from a terrorist attack of anthrax through the mail and we are in Canada fer crying out loud.
This is going to get so much more stupid before it gets better.
Be brave, be defiant, insist on your right to sell chatchkas on line it is the only way to win the "war"

That is not heavy frost.
It is the white powder we have been speaking of.
Yes, the terrorists have decided that they would like you to distribute Anthrax for them.
Now, v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.

This is getting beyond rediculous. Anthrax scares are crippling this nation. Has anyone given any thought to WHO has been getting these letters? The National Enquirer(media) , NBC ( media) , and Microsoft . I really don't think I am important enough to even get one of these envelopes.Someone is getting a heck of a kick out of seeing their handiwork on National News 24/7 , and we are encouraging more of it by being in total panic and refusing mail.BTW , I am in Florida ,do you think my mail will all come back unopened?

Not to mention all the letter were tested negitive for anthrax.

The mail was not and is not the cause of the cases that are out there.

Ask your self this before 9/11 How many people with flu have died had anthrax but not tested for it ever Just was said they die of a bad case of the flu.

All these cases are popping up because every one is tested first for anthrax out of there fears of it so its now being found more.

This country is not free from these things it exsits out there in nature even in this country inspite of the medical comunities best efforts over the years.

We have come to feel so safe from these things many stop automatically stopped test for these things now if you get sick and die you died of a bad cold or flu other normal illnesses the real cause more then likely untested for.

A little bit of rationality goes a long way. Terrorist don't strike homes; they don't mail an anthrax letter to a regular joe/jane who sells on ebay. You have a better chance of being hurt/killed in a car accident yet you probably still drive around town. Take a deep breath next time a fear comes across you and think through it. Most of our fears are irrational.

Thanks for the reminder about the cash, gravid.

Yes, I have seen those reports and money does harbor some evil little specimens.

I think we are in more danger of getting contaminated by cash or by using a public telephone which also has equally nasty stuff on it than we will ever be by accepting a money order.

Edited to say that there are now 983 ebay listings with the word "anthrax" in them.

As I have said on another "Fear" thread...

Honestly, how many terrorists do you *REALLY* think are registered on eBay? I think they just may be a *little too preoccupied* right now to be eBaying.

There's no need to worry...until Abdul Mohammed bin Mohammad with 0 feedback and sunshades starts bidding on your auctions - and a seller, you have the right to cancel his bid.

Money orders are not the problem, they have to be paid for... it is the personal checks (on overdrawn accounts) that can cheaply distribute the anthrax!!

"Many people get shot everyday, but you don't go around wearing a bulletproof vest, do you?"

Ummm, yes, I do... does this mean I can take it off now?

Just think about it. Every morning, thousands of office workers and postal workers are eating sugar powdered donuts and little bits of the yummy white stuff gets on the morning mail...thousands of distress 911 calls and panic only to watch Dunkin Donuts' and Krispy Kremes' stock plummet causing a world wide market crash....

Only bills should be turned in as suspicious mail

Believe it or not there is a seller on eBay that has in his TOS that checks or Money Orders will not be accepted from Florida because of the Anthrax outbreak. I kid you not. I saw the listing and laughed so loud my wife had to come see what was so funny, she started laughing also. The seller will only take electronic payment from Florida.

I wish AW would allow me to post the link. I can tell you the seller's name isn't "Chicken Little" (which it should be).
