This morning , out of ten auctions, only four ended with bids. And three were from out of the country. The one that went to an American usualy would have brought upwards of $50. This mroning it fetched me a grand total of $9.99 with only one bid.

I am not currently running alot of auctions, the 5 that I just had end, 3 ended with no bids, one did ok, and 2 did slightly better than I expected. I don't think I will be listing for a bit.

It's slow. Independent metrics of Ebay page views (people have to look before they can buy) show the number and pattern of hourly and daily hits has been ALOT less and very erratic.

Yes it is slow the economics stats said retail sales dropped 2.? percent in Sept. That doesn't sound like a lot but it is that is the biggest drop we had in such a short period of time since the 70's.
Everyone is worried no one wants to part with money now there are a lot of layoffs. Retail stores are laying off when they should be hiring for the Christmas season etc.. . .
My Ebay sales have dropped quite a bite my yahoo sales have picked up since Sept. 11. I am not sure why. my web site it very slow and other retailers I know are also slow. Now with the mail scares it will be slower as some people will be silly enough to be afraid to get their packages via the mail.
I am still putting as many auctions up. *()@#$*&*()ck those terrorist they can stick in were the sun don't shine. I think we should bath them all in pork fat the shove it down their throats. I am not going to change the amount of auctions I put up even if bids are down. I would rather take the lose then give it them. Most people are that is why the economy is going down the toilet.
I have also increased my buying quite a bit although I am thinking of pulling back on the ebay buying. I bought about a half a dozen things there most arrived in the last 2 days are we NOTHING like the description. One as a cat tent turned out it was a doll tent a cheap one at that. It broke apart trying to put it together. I paid via paypal via visa so I am jsut going to call my visa company and have them do a charge back.
There are also a lot of new sellers on Ebay. Less buyers more sellers also could account for the lower of profits but it will all work itself out.

Its been really variable for me. Last week was awful, the listings I had end two days ago had a 90% sell through - so I am encouraged.
As far as the folks who are afraid to receive mail...I'm just hoping they are at least as many people who will increase their web purchases because they are afraid to shop in malls!

I've had a few items in low demand, what I did was combine them with other related items and ended up selling them for twice to three times the going rate than if I sold seperately. They're saving on shipping so they will bid more that way.
Overall, I have seen some drop off in sales this week, I blame it on "Survivor" as this happened before just when that show starts. But I don't see any signs that people are spending less due to economic reasons.

Going to start listing again the first week of November. Have great merch, good prices, so let's see if buyers are ready then.

My eBay sales suck as well! I'm ready to throw in the towel for the year! My former great sellers (popular brand names) are sitting on the bench, seeing no action. I'm just wasting listing fees. Oddly, Half.com is doing relatively OK though.
People are in a very precarious position right now. There are very big bets being made on Wall Street that the market will plunge again soon, which means another slew of layoffs, bankruptcies, and will wipe out a lot of portfolios. A final act of capitulation that could be long and drawn out. If the market hears corporate earnings are going to be abysmal through 2002, and corporate spending will stall, that's all investors need to pull out of the market again. Then there's that last bubble that some are expecting to burst when consumer confidence plummets --- the overinflated housing market. Look out if that happens!! I don't blame people for being cautious with their money. You never know when you're going to be blindsided! As they say, cash is king, and minimizing debt is key right now, just in case something unexpected happens. We're in the middle of a recession that noone can accurately predict an end to.
I'm really thankful for any sale I make these days!

company which extend used car loan to risky borrower has reported last week the deliquency is rising sharply.
providian bank which has more less credit worthy cc holders had reported deliquency and late paymenst are rising.
you are right, the next thing we will hear will be from the housing market, when respectable folks lost their job in airline industry, computer industires etc,how long would it take for them to find another good job,how long can they last with their savings?these days mortgage payments run into a few thousand dollars, you need a roof over your head, you need to make car payment to find a job and you need to eat to have energy to go on interviews.
i am selling items under ten and i am grateful as well when they have bids.
it would be interesting what happens this xmas, cant stock up else we will be stuck with too much inventory ,who is going to buy after xmas??

You guys have got to hear this. Although my online sales have plummeted, my parties have shot through the roof. I guess people are more leery of buying online for whatever reason but I'm booking more and more parties now than ever.
The good thing is, I still get to work when I want just like I do on eBay. I was kinda upset at first but it seems people are more comfortable with face to face buying right now than they are ordering through the mail.
I really like selling on eBay but my bank account is still growing without it right now.

Before the terrorist attacks, my sales had made it over the bump of summer and were going gangbusters. Since the attack, my sales were pretty slim to none. Of course I sell collectibles, mostly glass & pottery and that definitely isn't a 'must have' item. So, I have taken the last two weeks off, cleaned up my den (affectionately known as my ebay pit) and my inventory room (was my daughters - one advantage of getting them off to college), cleaned my house and wrote up a bunch of auctions on mister lister and uncluttered my mind. Now I am ready to get to work.

My sales have had slowdowns before, so I don't take them too much to heart. I usually even do well over holidays.
But I have to admit, this past week was the slowest I've ever seen. I'm hoping it's just a blip & things will pick back up, especially for the holidays.

Yes, 38% sell-through so far this week. Lower than average.
Only 4 out of 12 auctions ending today have bids so far.
I think it's going to be difficult for the duration of the war and perhaps a bit beyond. We'd better get used to it. Find ways to adapt. Not much choice in the matter really.
