I was reading a thread hear about boosting your sales. I read about one poster that sent a Thank you to the winners using their feedback to get the email addresses. I wondered - How many sellers survey their customers? What do you ask?
Personally, I thought I read somewhere recently that ebay says a Thank you after the sale is over is SPAM. Does anyone know if ebay allows this?
I use AW so I do have a mailing list - about 100 people. Some have purchased from me, some not. I guess if I were to do a survey I would start with them.
But my questions here are -
How many sellers survey their customers?
What do you ask?
Does anyone know if ebay allows a Thank you to be sent after the sale is completed?
I appreciate your opinion, both sellers and buyers.

Hi RichieRich!
I would think a "thank you" note after the auction is over would be acceptable. Besides - you are thanking them for bidding on your EBAY auction. I don't think Ebay would have a problem with that, and if I received one as a customer, I would not consider it SPAM, but just a nice gesture.
On the other hand - if I received a survey asking me questions after the auction was over with, I would probably consider it SPAM and it would go in the "delete" box. I think this would border on ebay considering it SPAM also.

The eBay SPAM policy, in a nutshell, says that you may use someone's email for "eBay-related communications that are not unsolicited commercial messages". Of course, there is no definition provided of "unsolicited commercial messages".
It then says you can only use someone's email if you have given them a disclosure and they opt-in.
A survey is kind of a gray area. Using an exact interpretation of the policy, surveys appear to be OK since you don't stand to make any fee-leaking sales off of them.
I would stay squeaky clean and only send your survey to those who have opted-in to your mailing list.

I should have explained a little better.
The other seller sends a Thank You note that says something about if you would like to answer some questions related to the auction please email be back and I will send it to you. And also stated if they answer the questions they will receive a % off their next purchase from that seller.
Has any one else ever send their customers a survey? Have you as a buyer ever received one?
I made a purchase (jeans) a few months back and received a survey from ebay. NOW, I know why. It was all designer related questions. Now we have the Designer Boutique set up!

That sounds about as close to an "OPT-IN" as you could get.
No, no one has ever sent me such a survey. I am not exactly sure what I would ask if I were to send out a survey. I think I have a pretty good handle on my demographic, just from trying to decipher their emails...
