After a mostly dry sales period, Half seems to be picking up again. I put a bunch of just bought books on Friday evening and three sold even before the HTML cooled on their listings! Already well passed break even on all the books I bought that night just from those sales alone.

I do think that there is some falloff in buying on Half, but I think that it is largely dependant on what you sell.

Cool . .. mind if I ask where you get your books to sell? I'm trying to get started. I also have a lot of books I could probably sell. Are you talking about half.com?

Thanks,
Christine

I make my living selling books on Half.com & Amazon.com. It seems like sales are most definitely picking up again on Half.com Amazon.com. Sales since 9-11 haven't been that great for me but then again it depends on what type of books you sell. I sell the everyday easy to get titles and authors.

While sales are climbing they are not yet back to the levels they were before the attack on America.

Christine,

To answer your question "mind if I ask where you get your books to sell?" There are a lot of great sources although this is a very tough time to get into book selling here are a few suggestions:

Yard Sales
Swap meets
Thrift Stores
Estate Sales
Library Sales

For new books check Remainder sellers

Hope that helps a little if you have any specific questions I would be glad to help.

Thanks for the tips!!

I'm still trying to find my 'niche' so I'm trying a little of this and that. I figure I'll do yard sales, and closeout sales in my area for toys, electronics, clothing, and collectibles as well as books.

Not sure exactly but I also just listed a ton of my old Beanie Babies to get some money to get started. Yeah, not a good time to do this but I need extra money!!

I would like to eventually turn this into a full-time income but I know it will take a long time.

I am also involved in a home based business that I like, but it's taking longer than I thought to get it going.

Thanks again and Blessings,

Christine

mballai ~ It seems to me that the reason you had good sales was because you listed something new. My sales have been pretty flat on Half but whenever I list a bunch of new stuff I always get a few sales right away.

It's true that new books definitely help, but I have had an equal number of sales from books that were already waiting.

As to selling books for a newcomer, this is a very crowded field and the amateurs on Half have pushed many book prices down to non-profitabillity levels. It takes about 4 months to build up any sales on Half.

Oh I see. . .well, if that's the case I'll stick with my first idea. . .children's clothing and toys.

I will probably still get rid of my 100 or so books cluttering my office, but I still have to decide if I'll do that on half.com or eBay.

I was wondering if good sales were just a fluke (weekends seem to do better for me-Thursday through Saturday, Sundays are usually quiet) but as I am still getting daily business on existing inventory, I think we might be past the hurdle. Hopefully it will stay up.

For whatever reason mine seem to come in spurts (I have a few books listed, but mostly trading cards). Had 2 sales yesterday for 9 items - I've been getting lots of orders for 4-10 items per order. 8)

I love having a place where I can afford to sell common and uncommon trading cards and still make a bit of profit. 8)
