Seeing how payment by mail is taking longer, are any of you waiting a week or two longer before filing for FVF? I'm tempted to take online payment exclusively, but feel that would be slitting my own throat.

No, I am not waiting any longer than I have to.I don't think the mail is all that slow at this time..Then you have that 10 day waiting pirod after filing FVF request..
I have one now that is 18 days since auction closed...no payment.. I am on my way now to start FVF. This newbee has bid on over 50 auctions since the first of the month and won most all of them and has only paid for 5.
I'm not really looking for payment to show up at my mail box..

I've been seeing a lot of posts across various boards over problems with slow mail. But I'm not experiencing any problems.

My priority is getting there fine. My First class got almost across country in 2 days (I'm still fanning myself over that one) and the longest it's taken a letter to get to me was 5 days (and that's about normal).

I've always given an extra 3 days beyond my 14 day limit & I'm not willing to extend it until I see a more definate slowdown personally.

I don't see any difference at all. Over 200 auctions closed in past month & payments coming in fine, and as usual there are some that are slow, a handful that will require non-paying bidder alerts, and probably 2 or 3 who won't pay, but all mail seems to be arriving fine, and my packages from Canada to U.S. seem to be taking the regular amount of time to their destinations, too.

Most of mine are fine. A few stragglers who will probably use this as yet another excuse for late, slow or never paying.

Let's see: Auction closes;bidder and seller make contact in a day or two. It does not take more than about 7-10 days to get most 1st class envelopes. Even if the bidder dawdles a bit 14 days is plenty and that's eBay's normal allowance. NPB alerts adds ten days before getting credit so figure three days for dimwit bidder to mail the payment and 7 days to deliver. That's nearly a month. Even if the USPS was a bit slower, most mail will show up by then. If you wait a full month as many people do, you've given them more than eBay says is necessary. There's no reason to wait any longer.

One of the real problems with delaying the consequences of slow/non-payment is that it sets up bad habit patterns on the part of bidders which snowballs into lengthy transactions. Even good bidders, who are slow to pay, make eBay a bad venue because fast transactions are what make for good business and repeat sales.
