It'll be interesting to see what happens when Billpoint tries to put that charge through...

All right good for Jay. Money can never replace the mothers the daughter sons fathers firefighters etc. . . that died that day but maybe every little bit can help a little.

I myself can't believe some of the comments I have seen on this auction . . .

The buyers feedback is zero... I'll bet it's a bogus bid... Look at the number of cancelled and bogus bids...

Most of the bidders were zero. It is the type of item that would bring out people who have never bought on ebay/ not many ebat regulars have $%360,000 to spend

All the bids get verified or they get cancelled. And they won't accept any unverified bids once the auction had reached 3 hours to go.

I bet the winner gets a trip to LA and a spot on the Leno show/ if they want

traceyg: no one...NO ONE.....has a problem with the victims of 9-11 being assisted. However, many people from ebay have a problem with the way AFA was handled from day 1 and many, many more of us are having a problem with the nightly parade of survivors on news&talk shows who have yet to receive the first dollar of assistance or even a contact from the 100+ agencies "overseeing" these funds!

With almost one BILLION dollars contributed so far, a lot of us are curious as to why so many are still saying they have had NO help whatsoever!

We know WHERE the money went.....we would like to know WHEN it will be going to the ones in need!

local foodbanks have empty shelves

That's because they sent it all over to Afghanistan where it ultimately ended up feeding the terrorists

Whatever happened to "Charity Begins At Home"???

no---it id because most people have only so much money available for charitiable donations---and people are sending those dollars to New York.

but it is not just the Food Banks--Health charities such as Cancer, Diabetes, etc/ ----donations have plummeted

I just wanted to let everyone know that after the Johnstown Flood of 1977 the Red Cross came in and immediately began helping people ... passing out donations, etc.

Our major loss at the time was a hot water tank, which the Red Cross gave Mom a check to replace within a week or so of the tragedy. We were not flooded but struck by lightning ... three times.

I know it is a very trivial loss compared to the 9/11 tragedy, I am just posting it to make a point ... when in the h-e-double toothpicks are they gonna get this money to the people that need it? In my opinion, that money should be directly filtering to the victims from nearly day one.

I think we are all gonna find that this money ends up in someone's pockets. I am going to begin looking for a more direct approach at donating to the people who need it.

Perhaps Meg could save face by finding a way to directly get this money to the people. QUICKLY!

When disaster struck our neighborhood, the red cross gave out vouchers for food, clothing, prescription meds, OTC meds, etc. That's where SOME of the money goes. I don't believe that we ever actually got MONEY, but we got food, clothing, and shelter until we could get our head on straight.

I don't have a problem with people from NYC, Washington, and let's not forget Pennsylvania, receiving assistance. I just hope the Red Cross is providing assistance to the victims. I also wonder where all this money is going. Many Americans are contributing to the Red Cross due to the unfortunate events last month.

I know for a fact that donations from my city went to the local Red Cross and some went to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy. I think most people want to help and the first charity asking for donations is the Red Cross. I believe the Red Cross will receive well over 1 billion dollars. For the sake of the victims, I truly hope they provide an abundance of assistance.

Will anyone ever really get any of this money, seems more & more doubtful, no one can even say if this is a bona fide sale.

In other news, see this article:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/644203.asp?pne=msn

Which starts with this (and keep in mind these are the same folks eBay has hooked up with for their own dubious AFA promotion!):

Oct. 18 — Tens of millions of dollars pledged during last month’s star-studded celebrity telethon haven’t been collected because United Way, the group that was receiving donations for the telethon, wasn’t equipped to process credit cards.

Nope, it's a real article, I'm as astounded as you must be! You have to blink twice when you read that innocuous little phrase "tens of millions".

Interesting to note that ALL the hype and PR that is going on after this auction closed (LOTS of mentions on news shows and CNN tag lines)....don't you find it rather unusual that the name ebay ISN'T getting attached to "Jay Leno's Auction" ????

Lots of mentions of Harley Davidson and the parade of stars that signed the bike, but ebay and AFA seems to have slipped between the cracks.

Wonder if Meg will be on the show with the buyer tonight?

Well...did anyone catch Jay last night?

Introduced the buyer of the Harley and gave him a helmet.....on & off in about 60 seconds and I can't remember if I heard "ebay" or not.....definately not ANY mention of AFA.....

Just hope those funds make it where they were intended!

Last Friday in USA Today there were a couple articles related to the distribution of funds. Supposedly, according to the Red Cross, many folks who had family in the WTC (not rescue personnel, but folks who worked in the buildings) are turning down the help. The article said that so many of them were lawyers, brokers, executives, etc. and those families weren't in dire financial straits. Red Cross was planning on advertising the availibility of funds as a way to encourage those folks who need it to ask for help.

There was a second article about a woman who had to wait two weeks to get any help because of all the red tape and need for verification. Apparently, there are people who are fraudulently trying to make claims, so they were being extra careful about dispersing funds.
