I am from the Netherlands and want to sell on ebay.
By experience I know: don't sell during holidays or national celebrationdays; during those days business is slowing down; no good time for auctioning.
Can somebody tell me,if within the coming 2 month's the schools have holidays in the US and if there are any national days of celebration coming?
I would be thankfull for any answer.
Vriendelijke groet,
We have the following holidays coming up, but now is the time to sell for Christmas:
Nov 11 Veterans Day
Nov 22 Thanksgiving Day
Dec 24 Christmas Eve
Dec 25 Christmas
Dec 31 New Years Eve
Jan 01 New Years Day
Jan 21 Martin Luther King Day

Hello Netherlands,
We have no Public Holidays before Xmas, but kids are on holiday from 22nd October to 2nd November in various parts of UK. They will be bored and bidding on eBay!
You may want to rethink your policy. Some of my best sales days have come on holidays. Not everyone is traveling on a holiday & many use it as a time to relax & jump on the computer. Or get on the computer as an excuse to get away from their family.
One of my best annual sales weekends is the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. People are overloaded on food, football games & relatives. They seem to head to the computer as a diversion & I've had great luck with selling then.
And remember, what is a holiday in the U.S. isn't necessarily a holiday in the rest of the world.

Hello All and Skeetersdaddy,
thank you for replying.
During holidays we aution low-key here on the continent.
Anyway, I don't want to hurt your feelings, Skeetersdaddy, but your:
AMERICANS are the greatest in the world-
is more or less nonsens. I think you are out of step with reality here.
No abuse to you, Americans, I can appreciatie patriotism and I wish you well and am sure, that you deserve support in your honest efforts. But so do other people and peoples in the world.
God bless you.
Vriendelijke groet,
Frits

Winter holidays tend to be good, summer holidays are different, more people tend to be doing outdoor stuff and are away fro they'er PCs during the summer. Thanksgiving and Christmas are very good biddng days for me in the past. Good luck with your new endevors!!

I'd say the only holiday to worry about is Thanksgiving. In the US, the holiday occurs on the last Thursday of November. For most workers, this translates to a 4-day weekend. The holiday itself is traditionally celebrated with a very large turkey dinner and unlimited (American) football. Another "tradition" is that the official Christmas shopping season starts that Friday. That is now the old-fashioned view -- Christmas shopping starts earlier each year, and has been inching back toward summer.
For auction planning, assume that a large portion of the American audience is not online Thursday. The rest of the weekend, though, is likely to be desirable. You might want to think about when you could reasonably expect delivery of your goods from the Netherlands to the US.
