I bid earlier tonight on an auction that closes later this evening. The auction page showed that I had become the high bidder with my maximum bid.

Howver, when I received the high bidder notice from eBay, this is what it said:
Your current bid: $11.60
  Your maximum bid: $15.00
  Current price: $15.00

Why isn't my current bid the top bid? Should it register $11.60, or $15? I'm confused. E-mail from eBay sounds to me like I should have taken over the bid with $11.60, but I didn't, it shows $15.

I believe a previus bidder must have placed a reserve of $15.00 thus pushing you out of first place because if 2 bidders bid the same anount the earliest bid takes precedence.

Look at the bid history. Click on the link on the right hand side of the auction page. That should tell you what the story is.
