No, it's not a valuable statue or anything like that. It's a cymbal and I think they are some kind of bronze alloy.
The cymbal is tarnished and had greenish corrosion in spots. The green corrosion rubs off easily but underneath it the bronze is discolored to a much darker color. The dark spots won't polish out. I'm trying to achieve a nice, even shiny finish.
I'm trying polishing compound and super-fine steel wool but no luck so far. Oh, I suppose if I rub on it until 2002 it might polish up, but I need it to be easier and faster.
Any hints?

Seems like the cymbal is starting to suffer from the dreaded "bronze disease" which is explained here as well as a cleaning remedy.
General Purpose Bronze Cleaner: Salt, Vinegar, and Flour . Dissolve 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup white vinegar. Add enough flour to make a paste. Apply paste to bronze and let sit for 15 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse with clean, warm water, and polish dry.

It sounds fairly harmless but if something goes wrong and your cymbal turns out looking worse I hope you don't blame me.
