So, I hate to be the bad guy to ask this awful question but do any of you think this Anthrax thing is going to slow auction sales... or worse...???

I assume by that response above that this has been discussed at length here... but I haven't been here in awhile...
I already lost one sale because of it, someone was scared to receive mail from me because I'm in Florida.
Also, delivery has slowed way down for me, anyone else? PO taking a week to deliver some priority mail boxes.

I have a friend who sales flags on a website. She said a customer wanted her to guarantee that if she bought a flag that she would recieve the package free of anthrax! This is crazy. I am hoping the vast majority of people will not be so obsessive. I have a neighbor who is planning to go to her mailbox in plastix gloves and a breathing mask.

I haven't seen a slow down in package delivery. I shipped a Priority package to a buyer that arrived overnight. Likewise, I received a Priority package on Tuesday that I Paypal'd on Sunday night. Myself and both of the people I was dealing with in these cases live in Maryland, where some Post Offices have been shut down due to anthrax.
So far I haven't lost any sales due to my location. But then again, I've always felt that the seller never hears about 9 out of 10 lost sales.

People are crazy. We had the Trauma Center of one of our local hospitals closed for a while yesterday after a man came in with a jar of some unidentified liquid. He dropped the jar and it broke, and all he## broke loose. It seems he found it under his kitchen sink and didn't know what it was.
He wasn't feeling well he said and thought the liquid could have been the cause.
He was charged with inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor. Ten hospital employees were evacuated along with two police officers. They were given showers to decontaminate them and sent home.

The chance of contamination has got to be small. I doubt that the average person has much to worry about. A drive to the grocery store is probably a bigger risk right now.

I haven't followed the whole anthrax saga in detail, but weren't the anthrax letters mailed from New Jersey?
So why are people worried about mail from Florida???

We actually received a payment from someone whose post office is the NJ one were the Anthrax was traced to. It would have been going through at about the same time. They were kind enough to warn us but I doubt there will be any problems.

I never thought I would say something like this, but I almost wish I could turn on CNN et al, and find a SOLID half hour of info on Gary Condit or Jon Benet or more recounted votes in Florida or where Prez Bill got his latest quickee or even an in-depth interview with Meg.....ANYTHING BUT ANTHRAX!
CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, please quit fanning the flames!

Really, the media just cannot get off the anthrax drum. I guess they are worried because whoever is doing it is mailing it to them.

If you're tired of the saturation-beyond-belief coverage, call or write the media & tell 'em!
Of course the only thing that will make the all news outlets cover other subjects is a drop in ratings. And even then, one channel will have to grow the you-know-whats to be the first to break out of the pack -- then the others will immediately follow.

Well, thought I would pop out of my bunker many of you suggested I crawl into a couple of days ago just long enough to post the latest Post Office Generals update to all those that showed so much contempt of my concerns...basically but not verbatum this is what was said.....We can not quarantee civilian mail delivery to be safe from cross contamination, we advise everyone to wash their hands after opening mail...we were "unaware" that another letter "bumping" up against an infected letter could spread the anthrax...and also...the invisible spores can stay on the surface for months...Unfortunately, having "the last laugh" is not so funny and I hope everyone does use due care and I wish everyone well. I pray this rediculous nightmare anthrax scare ends soon.

I followed The Statement that Vargas made :"If you're tired of the saturation-beyond-belief coverage, call or write the media & tell 'em!" and did just that I wrote to the NY Times
I have to get this off my chest, the person who I'm sick to death of instilling paranoia into the hearts of the public is columnist Maureen Dowd of the NY Times.
Her column on oct.21 is the last one I'll read of her's. Frankly I don't know why I ever did. I'm just plain frustrated!

From NBC news the other day, just a little perspective:
Chance of dying in a car accident: 1 in 7000
Chance of being the victim of a shark attack: 1 in 100 million
Chance of being hit by lightning: 1 in 300 million.
Chance of dying from Anthrax tainted letter: 1 in 500 million!!!!

Regardinig writing the media about reporting other things and not just Anthrax.
I was watching CNN the other day, and they were reading email from people and they were saying the same thing. That the media doesn't know when to stop. They keep saying the same things over and over again.
The reporters answer...."That's what remotes are for."
So I don't think anything will help. I would enjoy turning on a news station and hear about other things going on in the world, and if they have something to report on Anthrax...It would have been confirmed. I have heard more than one reporter say..."This just in...It hasn't been confirmed yet...but we want to get it to you."
Then there might be a one line retraction later that It was false. But by then, people are already believing what they heard the first time, and might not even have heard that it wasn't true, because they don't spend as much time on the reporting that the statements were false as they do reporting the "Unconfirmed" ones.

kiddo2...No, they cannot "guarantee" that there is a 0% chance that any one letter passing through the US Mail might possibly have anthrax spores on it. Also, they cannot positively "guarantee" that any one person will not be killed on the way to the grocery store or slip in the shower and suffer a fatal concussion. However, the odds are infinitely more in favor of the latter two occurances than the former. Will you be forgoing that trip to the grocery or your daily bath? The choice is yours. Just as the choice is yours as to whether you will accept payments through the mail.
I am not trying to make light of the situation or your reaction to it. I am simply trying to add a bit of perspective. Good luck in your bunker.

The media does not give a hoot about what their listening public wants. They report what "they" want to report. Personally, I try to avoid the communist news network or otherwise know as cnn. I notice no one sent them anthrax. I guess those cameras they loaned the taliban gave them a break.

okay...you guys will hate me but, i am sitting here with a fever and flu like symptoms....i fricking guarantee you that one of the things that has come to mind is 'what are the symptoms of anthrax illness'; now i know we all laugh at all this paranoia....but you know good and well that the people that died probably poo-pooed there illness.....and look at what happened...they DIED...
now i know it is very remote, but we also have a government that doesn't tell the truth; we have a government that covers up stuff; we have a government that down right LIES...with Bush up in front of everyone saying that he knows that he will not get anthrax....well a big DURRR..he has millions of servants that his mail will pass thru that will pick it up b4 it gets to him....
b4 i get off my soap box, i want to give you one other thing to think about with regards to the government and the post office....did you ever ever ever in all your years of licking the back of postage stamps wonder if those were ever inspected for germs, contamination, cleanliness etc....did the FDA ever have any type of regs for postage stamps....if you know of any, then i will totally shut up....but, i can almost guarantee that the FDA or the government ever policed postage stamps to find out what we were licking....you know good and well that if postage stamps had been a private enterprise all kinds of checks and balances would have been implemented....but none implemented as it would have been much more costly for the governement to police it's own...
no, there is not alot of correlation between the anthrax situation and post office stamps.....BUT it is a few isolated examples of the government LYING to we the people...they do it and do it everyday...
