Back when I mainly sold Beanies, Priority mail was just set rate, no matter what zip code, it seemed. .. but now that i'm doing items that are little larger, it varies by zip code in some cases.
What is the cut-off for that? Is it 5lbs?
I'm trying to figure out when I need to put the shipping in and when I need to wait.
I just got a scale in the mail, thankfully because I was guessing the weight and losing money on some items that way. . . I've got boxes and tape on the way and plan on only doing priority mail so I get the packaging for free.
There is so much to learn in this business! Thanks for all your help, guys!

As I recall, the upcoming rate change will introduce variable Priority Mail rates for packages over two pounds. It's too bad, because Priority Mail's "fixed-price to anywhere in the U.S." feature was very friendly for online sellers.

Bummer! I started this at the wrong time, huh?
So, how do you handle the variable rate? Do you have a way to check the most expensive zip and just list that, or do you just put in 'actual shipping applies' and let them know after the auction ends?

When I list items that I know will top the 5lb rate, here what I put in my listing:
This item weighs XXX lbs. packaged. To estimate your shipping cost go to (put clickable link to USPS online calculator here) and calculate the cost from my zip code (XXXXX) to yours!
Be aware that the buyer will see not only the Priority Mail rate, but the Parcel Post rate as well.
I've rarely, if ever, had anyone ask for Parcel Post. Heck, most people don't even bother to check the rate.
But it does give those who are cost conscious a way to check the cost before bidding.
