eBay has not said when or if they are having free listing day this year. I don't think they have ever said in advance in the past years either. I think it will probably be Thursday the 20th because I don't remember it ever happening on a weekend and I doubt if they would have it on Friday because of being down for maintanence. Just my guess...

I agree with toolhound. December 20th is the most likely. My reason is that a 10 day auction would end on December 30th, so all the FVF's would appear in this calendar year. Remember the listing is free, not the whole auction.

And December 30 makes sense in that the 31st is NYE and who will be shopping ebay that night? Just the diehards who read these boards!

Along with the second listing being included as a freebie, seem to recall that the 10 day option was free.

Does anyone else recall this or are we just dreaming?

Happy Holidays to All!!!

The 2nd category MAY have been free- I don't know.

But the 10 day listings WERE NOT free. They charged the 10 cents like always. It's considered an optional add-on like Bold, featured, etc. and they want their money.

I'm also voting for the 20th. That way eBay can get the additional 10 cents per auction for ending it on Sunday the 30th.

Well I'm confused. Just what IS free on the free listing day? They charge for a 10 day listing? How many days can you list for free?
Also I didn't realize they charge extra for ending an auction on sunday. As you all can see I'm not a seasoned seller. Still trying to learn the ropes. After the holidays I want to get more going on ebay. I know how to buy though!! LOL !!

Free listing day is pretty simple - ebay doesn't charge a listing fee for whatever is posted during those 24 hours.

Ebay adds a 10 cent surcharge for their 10 day auctions. Since they don't consider that part of the listing fee, any 10-day auctions you post will still be charged the 10 cents.

There's no surcharge for ending auctions on any specific day of the week. Ebay knows that a lot of sellers prefer to end their auctions on a Sunday. What replaymedia is suggesting is this: If ebay makes the 20th the free listing day, then they know that a lot of sellers will choose the 10 day auctions just to have their auctions end on a Sunday. That way, Ebay gets to have their Free Listing Day, while knowing that they'll at least accrue a lot of dimes from the sellers who would rather have their auctions end on a Sunday instead of a Thursday.

Thanks holdenrex! That clears it up for me. That's why I love reading this board so much.
ALL questions will be answered pretty quickly by people that KNOW the answers!

On December 1, Ebay had almost 7,450,000 listings. Today they are at 4,842,000. That would lead me to believe the free listing day will take place very soon.

It appears from the graphs on the link above that Dec. 20th is a low then a major jump, which would reflect a Free Listing Day.

SO, guess I'll go get take a nap, then get my auctions ready,

Blessed Holidays to everyone:

Boy, I have 30 items ready!

No feed listing Day!? Would ebay really ruin this tradition? Yeah, I guess, maybe. Look what they have done to search and completed auctions. They ruin lots of things, don't they.

I am sure the folks at ebay know sellers are waiting for the FLD to list tons of valuable items. That's are little Christmas present. But with the AFA and all maybe they will be scrooge this year. Have to wait and see.

They work you have done will not go to waste. Just launch it and pay the fees. Then ebay will offer a FLD the day after (LOL).

Jim: I've had the same thought. Between the one in June and all the money they gave up for the A4A it is possible they will pass on it this year.

I hope not and am ready just in case. If not, then I have all my listings for January all made up and ready to go. If you look at it like that, it's not really a waste of time, just a head start!

Of course, I will spread them out if I have to pay for them, but at least the work is all done.

I personally write my auction and start them at the same time free listing day auctions end. free listing last year did nothing but glut the collectibles categories with hundreds of worthless items listed as "Rare Vintage" at 1 cent. Page, after page, after page. YUCCCKKKKKK!!!!

I doubt eBay would not have the free day at Christmas or in the summer. Both are done at slow times for them and even not charging for the listings I am sure it is very profitable for eBay. Those final value fees add up fast.
