I listed an item a couple weeks ago and when it ended the winning bidder's address was in Canada so I emailed him and told him we do not ship outside the USA as it states in our auctions. I relisted the item with a Buy it Now and he bid on it again which closed the auction. Now I'm out Ebay's fees twice - more trouble to get them refunded that they're worth - Any suggestions to keep him from doing it again???

If you do not want him for a customer use bidder block.

Email and ask them for a USA address. Maybe they have one.

He'll probably neg you if you don't ship it to him, so you might as well have some fun with him. Ship the item to him. On the customs form, list the contents as liquor or tobacco products. Declare a value of $2000.00 and use the name and return address of one of your non paying bidders. He'll never want to bid on any of your auctions again.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

customer may not always be right, but NEVER NEVER DO NASTY THINGS TO YOUR BILL PAYING CUSTOMER.
all he did is fall in love with your product.
ask him if he has a usa address,if not ship anyway when you get paid, lots of sellers ship to canada, pack it well, fill out us customs form and thats it.
canadians are trying to save some money by buying overseas to avoid double/triple tax in their homeland.canadian customs used to open every package but now i heard they are getting mellow or just overwhelmed with packages coming from overseas.
good luck,a sale is a sale,be nice.

I am a Canadian. I have an American address. As a courtesy to my American customers and in order to stay competitive I drive a 100 mile round trip and pay customs fees and bridge tolls and mail from the USA on a once a week basis. I am not whining I do it because it is good for my business - but perhaps a little return courtesy to a Canadian buyer would not be out of order. We are neighbours (yes we spell differently) - a little neighbourliness might be in order.

I get canadian customers all the time,
I love them! (the pay with BidPay- another plus you have to go to PO to ship
Your domestic packages anyway, why not take
The Canadian one too?
And many of them living near the border keep US mailboxes.
I even give free shipping to my Canadian customers if item is over $150.00 USD
After all the conversion rate is killing them, so I'm more then happy that they chose
To spend their money with me
(but I may not have objective opinion on this being married to a Canuck

If you dont wanna ship international
Just state no Int'l shipping in your TOS
(as you already do I guess )
But I dont see anything wrong with accepting the occasional Int'l bidder that really wants
Your item.

I always list that I ship US only but get tons of sells that wind up going all over the world. It's not that big of a hassle. If you have a weight on the item you can easily go to the USPS website and figure shipping to most any country. Just be sure to insure it and fill out the correct customs form (and make sure that your buyer understands that shipping will be costly). I haven't had one not arrive yet. I always ask that my overseas customers pay via BidPay or PayPal. I only got stuck once on a Canadian Postal Money Order. Turns out that my bank is still using computers from about 1970 that could not handle the 10 digit routing number.

I'm continually amazed at the number of sellers who not only refuse to ship internationally, but won't even ship to Alaska and Hawaii. "Lower 48 only." Excuse me, but the post office rates are the same. No customs forms (I have been asked by sellers about that). Why turn away two states (and, yes we are STATES) full of potential buyers? Anyone who is serious about online selling needs to educate themselves better than this.

The charges for FedEx and UPS to Alaska and Hawaii are higher. But we know that, and are willing to pay. Yet some sellers won't sell to us at any price. And heaven forbid if they are set up for UPS only and you ask if they could ship via the post office instead! Hey, I'm just a potential repeat customer. I wouldn't want to mess up your routine or anything.

As a buyer, it is very frustrating. And, being stuck on this rock with its limited supply and variety of goods, I buy a lot online, believe me. I'll stick with the sellers who know what they are doing.

As a seller, though, it improves my competitive edge since I ship almost anywhere. So, if you sell in my categories, go ahead and be xenophobic! LOL.

MypostingID is just that.

Hmmm ... this is turning into a "US vs US ...Why won't you sell to me?" discussion.

Gotta be a first

I am a Canadian Seller...have over 4000 all positive feedback..never a problem with any USA customers...I sell to other canucks but not much as they dont buy as much as the USA.

The only problems I have ever had are selling to Canadians in my own country.

Mgt830: If you have any problems with your bank, just take the Canadian postal money order to any U.S. post office where it will be cashed WITHOUT CHARGE. That's part of the postal treaty arrangement between our two countries.

Thanks for all the input. I love the one about the $2000 customs value - wouldn't do it - but it is hilarious!! I have shipped internationally quite a few times when the buyers email before the auction ends and we agree to terms. Many of the Canadians have asked us to lie on their customs forms, sent payment in forms other than the agreed ones and a couple have not paid at all. I guess I'll just give the item to someone and forget about seling it on Ebay!
Thanks and Happy Holidays!!
