Is their a reference book to buy that is just for reconiseing marks-symbols-stamps to be able to learn who makes certain pieces? Ones like Lefton are obvious they state a name on the bottom of a piece. But the ones with only a picture or symbol are much tuffer.

yes, there are more than one. I have both a Kovel's and a smaller one by Miller. The smaller one also has silver hallmarks and is just the right size to carry in my purse when I go antiquing.

Kovel's New Dictionary of Marks. Pottery & Porcelain 1850 to the present by Ralph and Terry Kovel. Thats the name of the book. Try searching ebay to see if one is on there. You don't really need a recent one so maybe someone is selling their old one. Try your local library, they might have a copy.

I didn't know they sold one of these books. I always wished they did. After reading your replies I went right in and did a BIN on three of them. I was so excited to find out there was a book made I didn't care how much I paid. I bought Kovels Dictionary of Marks 1650-1850 & another book by the same name with marks American,English,& European made. & another book Kovels New Dictionary of Marks.European,Oriental & American marks. I am so excited now all I have to do is wait for them to show up. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This will save me hours and hours of research!
