Refund Button
Notice Date: January 17, 2002
Effective Date: January 31, 2002
Due to popular demand, PayPal members will be able to refund all payments received by their PayPal account. The refund button will be available for the first five days after a payment is sent. If the transaction is refunded, all transaction fees will be refunded and the payment will be reversed.

DAMON: this is good news! But...
IOW: if a buyer sends me the INCORRECT total (say, he "forgets" shipping), I can just hit the REFUND button and thus NOT lose the PP fees? Correct?
THIS IS A SUPER NEW FEATURE...but...
Why didn't ya just implement the "REFUSE PAYMENT" button instead?
Easier for YOU & easier for US!
Oh well...half a loaf is better than crumbs!

There has always been a refuse payment button.
In your settings you can make it so that you can review and click accept on each payment rather than allowing it to go directly into your account. So there is your refuse button by clicking to not accept any payment.
If you are a high volume seller it would be a hassle but I like having to look at all my payments before accepting them to make sure the amounts are correct.

LOVE: That preference ONLY allows you to refuse pmts from UNVERIFIED addresses or INTERNATIONAL pmts ONLY!
IT DOES NOT ALLOW you to reject a regular pmt from a VERIFIED CONFIRMED address!

tomwii I just went and checked and you are right on that point.
Well I never had any problems and I am usually quite clear to my customers on what is owed me. I don't deal in expensive stuff so I never had much to worry about.

THANK YOU....and I agree with others, how about a refuse button for more than unverified address's.

I love the feature! A refund button works great.
Come on everyone else. Why quibble over how something is done? It works, we pay no fees, and we get the correct amount. I hated having to pay an addition transaction fee for shipping costs someone forgot to add in, and it has happened more than once.

This is great but it only works the first 5 days after payment is sent. What is the possibility that you will refund money during the first 5 days? Usually refunds occur way after buyer receives their goods and finds out there something wrong. That usually takes more than 5 days. I think it should be about 10 days.

The 5 day thing will help with double payments. I get 1 per week minimum and hate losing fees because of it.

Damon, this is a good thing.
Now, can you can explain why paypal took away the ability to see how the payment was funded?...
