I have always sold smaller items that I could ship via Priority Mail. Well dh bought a piece of furniture for re-sale that I have listed. I encourage the buyer to pick it up, in my copy. A potential bidder has e-mailed me and wants to know the cost for shipping. I really don't want to crate it ourselves. Am not sure if its safe to blanket ship it. And I haven't the foggiest idea on which shipper to use. HELP! Please!!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I can tell you this ... this will be the last piece of furniture that I try to sell online.

you can inquire local shipping co which specialises in shipping bulky stuff,or ask antique shop, furniture shop whom do they use for shipping?
there is a very long thread on aw on a case of shipped furniture which went amok.you can go back and see there are almost 400 postings on that thread-buyer bot an antique armoire on ebay ,delivered knockdown by some spanish people workers, buyer hubby was home and asked if they know what to do,and the workers said like they are not confident,so the buyer hubby dismissed them, back and forth and back and forth ,and there is a law suit filed bla bla bla.

It depends on what you are shipping. We shipped a chair side console radio, circa 1939. We got a garment box and foam blanket from a moving company. Wrapped it in the blanket, put it in the box, and shipped it UPS from Ohio to Texas without even shaking a tube loose.
We have also shipped a huge (almost 3ft long) dollhouse that was really tricky. Mailboxes etc would not package it for us. We found a box, our friendly UPS man filled it with peanuts, it arrived just fine. there were a couple of small dings according to the buyer but nothing elmers glue couldn't fix in a moment.

I went through the same ordeal a few months back and it turned into a headache. Next time I just sell it at a local auction house.

Thanks for your help.
I would love to stick to my policy - pick up or buyer arrange transport. But at the same time I want this out of the house since I don't have room to store it and I don't want to put it in the garage and run the risk of it getting dirty.
It's a loveseat so some of those options won't work, thank you though.
I tried cratersandfreidhters but they don't service my area. AIYEE!!!

have you called your local movers? or a local auction house may have some names of companies.
when my son moved to Texas, a company hauled his things along with 5 or 6 other households to fill a truck. they tag each item with an order number and charge by the weight.
pickup would sure be easier though. I know hubby said the dollhouse was the last straw. If it can't fit on the front seat of the car, I can't sell it!!!

I have used Craters & Freighters, and have used another company while in Buffalo, called The Packaging Store. See if you have one in your area.
I also just received an email from a blanket wrap shipper who was soliciting business from me. Call Schroeder Associates 1-800-535-7761. Email [email protected] Be prepared to give any shipper the city, state and zip code of where it will go to. Also, they will need dimensions, weight and approximate value.
I sell large pieces of furniture all the time and have never personally used a blanket shipper, as their costs were higher than Craters & Freighters. I have heard others who have used them very successfully though.
