Capodimonte porcelain knock offs produced in Germany. This is highly profitable for Germans as most people don't know enough about Capo to recognize that it is not the same product as actual Italian Capodimonte. Capodimonte means "top of the hill". It is produced today as it was many years ago, in small factories in the hills above Naples, Italy. Each individual factory produces a slightly different type of porcelain-some glazed-some bisque-some only do miniatures-some only fo cherubs or figurines. Anything marked Germany is a knock off. However, there are some collectors of German type Capo porcelain. You can sell it as such but please remember that Italian Capo is handmade individually and German is mass produced. I have been collecting authentic Italian Capo for many years so if you have any further questions please ask.

thank you capolady for your input ... are you saying the C on top of the N is a mark, used in Germany, to signify their 'capodimonte'? ... also, what do you make of the blue plain beehive next to the mark? ... thanks again... marcia in ohio

Marcia,

Yes the "C" is to signify the German made Capo. Also, the beehive is a trademark of a particular factory-just as some Italian Capo factories use the horse as their insignia. Hope this helps. Where in Ohio?

Hi Jude~! ... thanks for sharing your knowledge with me further ... I have been looking all over the internet (such as replacements.com, ebay, etc) and do see only 1 cup and saucer set that recently ended with no bid (at around $100 asking price though!) that is this pattern ... there is also 1 cup of this with a mismatched saucer on ebay right now with no bid. ... it is BEAUTIFUL 'stuff'! ... but even these sellers don't have "anything to say" about the actual marks and stamps on the bottom of these! LOL .... ~Marcia (near Akron)
