Mmmmm. Nobody has taken up your questions yet, so let me take a stab at it.

To begin with, if you are talking about setting up an e Merchant Account with shopping cart, I guess you are basically setting up the ability to take credit cards.

Some of these credit card services offer you the sun, the moon and the stars to pay their expensive start-up fees, and if this is the case, I urge you to wait a bit.

First off, I would test the waters for your website idea by posting some basic questions here and in other appropriate forums about the best services that are available to accomplish what you have in mind.

I would not put a penny down on anything until I could see what any services website package looks like, see some actual clients, see the procedure that has to be followed, and learn whether or not it is on line or downloaded.

There is a further concern as to support for the time in the not too distant future when ebay changes its code again and immobilizes 90% of the programs currently in use.

Finally what kind of track record does this company have with ebay folks? Anyone here ever hear of "e merchant account" or whatever their name is......

Lots of help and opionions are available. But you need to provide us with more details in order to give you feedback other than the generalizations I have just made.

Thank you for your response.

This is for a different business than ebay. I use Paypal for ebay...

What I really need is someone to guide me to a reliable person who does website cheap

I asked the question before..and there WAS one company referred but they are $200 just to set up.

This is for E'ola weightloss / and health products. I need a shopping cart...too.

I am totally ILLITERATE when it comes to websites..I can NOT even invision a good combination of colors that are appealing etc.

E Merchant was a product I saw at Circuit City last night. You paid $69 for it..and a monthly site fee of $30..but you got a shopping cart etc.

So I was wondering if anyone had ever used it?

Thanks again
Carole

what are you really looking for?
someone who can design your website and put in shopping cart ??
do you want to accept credit cards?
do you want real time authorisation ??
the easiest way is to find a mall where there are already shops and traffice and open shop there.
take amzn zshop for example, amzn will accept credit card for you and deposit the fund in your account.
the problem with amzn zshop is that you will be disappointed as how little traffic you will get .
there is yahoo shopping where there is plenty of traffic but lost of competition.
no need to reinvent the wheel, find a mall which will suit you best.

Well at those prices they better be giving you the world.

Their $30 a month probably does not include any of the actual processing fees, web site hosting, or ISP costs.

I am not saying it is bad but there are alot of details left out.

From the voice of experience you can do much better.

--What I would like is a nice, simple website that has a shopping cart, accepts credit cards (can I use Paypal for this?), that I can put an email sign up for a newsletter, places to put specials on the product etc.
I also would like to submit it to a bunch of search engines.
Would it be better to belong to a mall? How do I find one that is good? How do I find out if it is a good/active mall?
Ya know..maybe I don't KNOW what I want because I don't know what is available.?

[I'm soooo confused and frustrated...aarrgghhh]

Thanks all of you for being so patient with me.

Well the first question is...

How much of your money will be done thru this account?

If you use paypal you can probably total up the past 4-6 months & that could be an anverage to use.

If it is below $1000 a month you probably want to hold off.

As for shopping cart systems there are many available. There are alot out there that I am sure people on the boards here can tell you which is the best one for your business.

I had mine custom designed because I do auctions & retail from a single inventory on my own site.

As for an e merchant account I would suggest you contact VERISIGN. (www.verisign.com)
& whatever processor you need thru them
I use NOVA.

To give you a cost breakdown of what you may be looking at.

Verisign Setup $180 minimum (they have many pkgs)Monthly $20 (goes down if PREPAID)
NOVA setup $90 Monthly $30 or 2.35%+.30 per transaction whichever is greater + $5 monthly statement fee(negotiable after 6 months)

I can process VISA, MC, & AMEX
for additional $25 setup DISCOVER

On top of that you have the monthly costs of your host server & ISP.

All in All for me it costs about $150 a month for my setup & I average about 2500 a month in CC payments currently.

Hope this helps

I am simply a new distributor for Eola weightloss products. I would like simple web page that they can see the products..have an order form....accept credit cards...shopping cart...

I'm brand new so I'm not making money yet..but I'm advertising and would like a homepage to send them too...right now I have to send them to the company's homepage and HOPE they come back and order from me. :-}

Here is the homepage of the company..you'll see theirs is very simple as well.
www.eola.com

Let me know what you think?

Thanks so much for all your help

Howdy,
You may be interested in the service that I use. I pay about ten bucks a month, for the website and shopping cart. The service allows me to build the website with absolutely no knowledge of html, it's just fill in the blanks. The shopping cart can interface with Propay, an inexpensive service for taking credit card payments, or a regular merchant account.
The service I use is at the top of my links page:

carole,
what he described to you is what you need to have in place to sell,150 dollars is reasonable for 2500 dollars worth of business.
you can have paypal webaccept in your shop which will dave you some money and for those who do not want to use paypal, they can send you money order or check.
you can also ask your internet service provider to see if they will host your website/
did you look into www.bigstep.com,i believe bank of america is involved providing cc processing ,it started out free, now it cost you 25-50 dollars a month

I think linking to PROPAY would work to start with. So I would recommend following the previous poster's info on site hosting etc.

Propay has a initial Fee ($9.95?) & last I heard was 3.5% + .30 per transaction. While a little high it works for smaller e tailers.

Just watch out once you start approaching the monthly processing limits ($1000). You may wind up in a situation where it will not let you process more because you have done too much already this month. In which case you will need to have them hold $250 in a security type account.

As far as I know NOVA definitly requires a FEDERAL TAX ID number which in turn points to the business checking account.
I believe that is the only one.

But they are the actual processor.
I imagine that the others are the same.

Altho I believe it may be possible to link to a personal checking account as long as you have the tax ID #.

PAYMENTECH which is a sub of BANC ONE does not require commercial checking account.
there is a monthly fixed fee of 22.95 plus discount fee and transaction fee per each order.
it takes 3-4 business days to deposit fund to your bank account,so you could be looking at 7 calender days.
you can view your activities online free via a site call first merchant.
someone who uses wells fargo said you get your money faster with them.
if you are just starting out,you can offer propay and paypal on site ,dont forget they can always use billpoint by going to billpoint site.
