Hi!,
Our corporation is looking to cut our eBay operating costs... and we decided that our $20.00 per month e-mail accounts could be one of the first thing to go. There are many free e-mail accounts out there.... but which ones are the best? I'd like to stay with a web-based e-mail because we work on multiple computers and need access to the account and all the saved messages from each computer. The biggest problem doing this is in storage space. So, I'm using that as the biggest criteria in choosing the new account. It looks like Hotmail only has 2MB of storage.... Yahoo has 4MB... and Lycos has 6MB. Obviously, Lycos seems like the best choice at this point. However, I was wondering if anyone has any better suggestions.... or if they know of any problems with any of these accounts.
I'm also concerned about how well these accounts will work. I know that with my current e-mail, about 5-10% of my e-mails are returned as undeliverable. When I send these e-mails to my eBay bidders through an alternate e-mail address, they go through fine. My only assumption is that my current e-mail is being blocked by spam filters on some accounts. As this is kind of a hassle, I'd like to find an account that does not suffer from as severe spam-filtering (if this is possible!) Thanks for all your help!

It's not free, but it's a very good service for small businesses, especially if you need a web-based service. I use them. You can also have them use your own domain, so you won't have some stupid email address like hotmail.com where people will think you're a fraudster.

I just signed up for Netscape's free e-mail and that allows 5KB of space per e-mail account. So far, so good, but I've only been using it for a week. I had no problem changing my e-mail address with eBay, which was a real surprise!

Most free web-based email goes to fee-based services these days if they don't go under. Just a note of caution in this free-to-fee internet world.

Hotmail has been pretty reliable for me and they have an option to have 10 MBs of storage
(the free default is 2 MBs) for a flat ANNUAL fee of $19.95.

you should not even think about those small email providers. They will go belly up one day and will will have tons of trouble with your email. You need a stable big company which you know will be around for a long time. The real choice is between Yahoo and Hotmail.
I have both. From my experiance, Hotmail gets too much spam. Yahoo does a much better job in stopping spam. Yahoo gives you 4megs for free but you can buy more. Check out the pricing:
http://ordering.yahoo.com/or/ypm/splash?243&Pkgs=us%3aym%3aspace&.osig=3Anzm
why do you want to pay $19.95 to Hotmail for 10megs, when you can get 25megs for the same price at Yahoo.
Yahoo also allows you to have email with your own domain. I use it and I am very satisfied. Yahoo also has a small business edition. Check it out:

Hope it helps

I have tried dozens of free email services, and none of them come anywhere close to uReach.com 6MB free, additional available for a small fee. I never have an email return that was to a valid email address. I think the next best was onebox.com but I didn't really use it much. I personally would avoid hotmail as much as possible.

Thank you all for your very helpful suggestions! With all the free options out there... we really don't want to pay anything for the e-mail accounts (although there are obviously a LOT of better plans out there than the one we were subscribing to). I tend to agree with Mballai & Demid in that we want to switch over to a company that is likely to still be around (and still free) in a few years. From the general consensus here... I think that Hotmail is out of the question. It's storage space is too small and it has too many problems. Yahoo sounds better... but I think Lycos may be more valuable with it's larger MB size. However, some of the ones mentioned here that I am not familiar with, but still look interesting, are hotpop.com & ureach.com. Although, my questions on those are how long have they been around? And do you anticipate them to remain around, and still be free? Thanks again for all your help. I truly appreciate it!

Avoid Hotmail...I've had several webmail accounts - Hotmail is only good for getting unwanted porn solicitations. Yahoo! is great - also check out Everyone.net.

Hotpop has been around for a while -- I signed up 2 years ago and it is still kicking. They don't offer web access yet but you can use outlook or any email software.
What you can do is, sign up for another services which offer web access and forward you hotpop account over there -- if you really want web access.
They also have premium services, but why pay if you can get it for free? I think it is solid and straight to the point.
10MB & spam-free? who can beat that?

I'm just curious as to how many e-mail accounts you need?
My ISP - Verizon - has web-based e-mail as part of its $49.95 DSL package.
Verizon Online DSL comes with up to 10 MB of personal Web space, up to four e-mail accounts, 10MB of email storage space per box, 24x7 technical support and a Web site designed for DSL access.

My webhosting company offers unlimted pop3 email accounts with my host package.
$19.95 a month and it HAS webbased emails as well.
I can access the same email account online or through outlook express.
I created products@mydomain sales@mydomain, auctions@mydomain questions@mydomain parties@mydomain etc etc
I also have all emails going to questions@ and products@ forwarded to sales@ so I don't need to log in to so many different accounts.
websitesource.com they have great tech support and a 1-800 number

Just wanted to thank you all again for your great help! I went ahead and created a mail.com account. With 10MB of free storage, they were clearly the best choice for space. I've also seen many users with this address, so I can only assume they must have a pretty good following. Thanks dadofstickboy for the suggestion! And thanks to everyone else for your contributions!
