Can anyone tell me what the qualification is for Lucite? Is it just a fancy word for plastic? Or is it different? I have a vintage item that looks like Lucite, but I don't want to inaccurately describe it. Thanks

Looking through my jewelry books for a defination this is the only thing I have found.

Lucite: DuPont's trade name for plexiglass intruduced during World War II.
