Well,
I don't know HOW it happened but all of my OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6 folders, email..EVERYTHING was wiped out...totally erased!
All my auctions I'd sold on ebay this month...gone...
All my list and passwords info ...gone.
All my genealogy info...gone.
My sent folder...all gone.

Does anyone know HOW TO RETRIEVE this? Or where I can go to find out?

I can't figure it out...this is what happened:
I was reading my emails...(no attachments were on them)...
All of a sudden when I would click to read them it said "Return receipt could not be sent"...I clicked OK...and then I could NOT delete the message (it was from AMERICAN AIRLINES)...so I clicked on the next email and it it gave the same receipt message.

So I figured my system was froze and simply restarted my computer.

When I got back to my email it started my OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6 with NO MESSAGES...NO FOLDERS ..and a 'welcome' letter..as if I'd just started Outlook today.

I looked everywhere..it's not in recycle...

Oh man...since when does a virus' get in without an attachment????
Can anyone please help.

Pania

call your technical support of your ISP. They should be able to help you.

Maybe your "identity" was changed. Try clicking on the file menu and then selecting switch identity. See if that's it.

Hi,
Checked my identity..and there is only one there.
I'm soooo depressed...I've been online for about 6-7 yrs and this has never happened before.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks

Are you using McAfee's antivirus as there have been cases where it wipes out all your e-mail in Outlook.

I can't help you out but I can tell you this is pretty weird!

I too use Outlook Express 6 and all day my email was weird. It would get hung up in checking mail, hung up in receiveing mail. After about the 5th time of rebooting my computer - everything was gone. Like you NOTHING was in my mail. I immediately rebooted, again.

I knew no matter what I did when the computer smart person got home, it would be my fault!

After turning the system back on my mail was back BUT it still got hung up checking mail. Again reboot, this time I did not even open the mail. 2 hour later I opened the mail and it has been like nothing was wrong at all.

HOW KNOW'S maybe it had something to do with the date 02/20/02 at 20:02:02 - heck it will never happen again! Remember the world was suspose to end in the year 2000! LOL!

somewhere on your C: drive (Hard Drive) there should be a file that contains your email info. I know that this is called Outlook.pst for MS Outlook. I belive the file you need that contains your messages is in your Outlook Express folder.

Word to the wise. Back up the email message file!!!!

I'm smiling, but very sympathetic! My computer-whiz husband has been nagging me to back things up. I haven't been, but after accidentally erasing all my bookmarks (yikes), I am now a convert. When we moved he copied my stuff on a disk and was able to at least restore the bookmarks I had in December (doesn't do the whole job but is a great remedy for now).

But there have been times when I did lose all my e-mail, and he's always said the stuff is somewhere in your computer forever and he's found it. I don't know how, but he did.

Good luck to you, kiddo. It is awful when these things happen. ~Adele

Click Tools| Options| Maintenance| Store folder

Lol....I was afraid you may ask me that.

Sorry, I'm not sure enough to give advice so you may have to wait for dman or someone to show up or you may find it here:

As I stated call your tech support for your ISP. They should be able to help you get everything back. This is what you pay your internet fees for so that when you have major trouble they are there to help. When your looking for a folder go to your start button click on find, enter what you are looking for and it should be there. Don't be afraid of your computer. I am happy that you found your mail.

I use Outlook 2000 but in 6.0 you should still be able to import the file.

Go to File and look for Import.

Same thing happened to me last year after having another computer problem and being online with Eartlink Tech to help me with that other problem and all of a sudden lost all of my email in Outlook Express

BUT thank goodness I have a Gateway Computer with a GO BACK FEATURE, that takes your computer back to whatever date you need.
That feature has been a life saver a few times !!
