I read the other current thread realting to buying FROM Romania. Since you folks seem to be very familiar with the Romania ebay connection, maybe you can shed some light.....

Recently I had two different auctions won by a bidder who I'm pretty certain is the same person - username on ebay is different by only one letter and it's a pretty unique username. BTW, both usernames have zero feedback.

The total came to roughly $100 for both auctions - and both were inline skates. The bidder responded to my WBN on the first auction saying s/he was "vacationing in Romania" and how much would it cost to ship the skates there. I don't do international shipping and said so in my reply but added that if they insisted, the cost would be something like $42 for airmail.

After sending my email reply, I noticed the second auction which I thought was the same bidder name and emailed them back to say that I saw where they had won 2 auctions and the cost for international shipping was for only the one pair.

They answered me back saying that was fine and only the one pair needed to be shipped to Romania.

That was well over a week ago and I've heard nothing since on either auction. I don't expect to and am proceding with negs,
NPB's, etc, but I'm just wondering what's up with the Romania connection?

Anybody ever had a similar experience.

The only way I would ship to that country is if they paid in cash only! And then its their risk if it goes "missing".

Other than that, I would never send money there, will not deal with any part of the old east block.

File for your fees then relist.

Your bidder is vacationing in Romania, and she wants you to ship some inline skates there. Those Romanians really do think we are stupid. That's the funniest ebay story I've heard in a long time.

Romania is no vacation...

Don't ship unless they pay cash or secure a money order via Bidpay. No exceptions, as these cons are very clever and try and convince you into a false sense of security.

I just had a similar purchase made last week. They happen from time to time and I always resist temtation in falling for the fraud.

Before shipping, seek sound, professional advice... I recommend:

I agree Trai, only cash from Romania, and no blame if the package does not get there. I have not shipped there before, and hopefully will not.

I've actually changed my auction rules for international auctions. I've analyzed the past few years, and I've had a higher % of misdirected auction shipments internationally than domestically. I tend to have items under $40 so they are not really worth insuring, but my new wording is that international shipments will be shipped at their own risk. They need to arrange for insurance to be added if they wish to file a claim. We'll see how it goes...
