I've been selling on eBay since 1998. I've never had anything break during transit because I always double box the fragile items. Thus I don't know the process of how to file for the post office insurance refund.

However, as a buyer, I have received two broken items in the mail from two different sellers in the past few days, that I have not taken to the post office yet.

Seller one tells me I am to take the box to the post office, fill out some forms, the post office refunds her, she refunds me.

Seller two tells me she will send me the post office claim form with the seller portion filled out, along with a receipt for the sale, then I finish filling out the form, take it and the box to the post office and the post office refunds me.

I am confused. Which seller is right? Or are they both right?

Has anybody gone through this and have any advice?

Thank you.

Go to your local post office and fill out a form. Must have proof of insurance in order to do so. Must also have proof of damage (loss).

Take package and wrapper with you. They are both right but seller has insurance form. It can be done either way says my fiance Postmaster

they both forget to mention the most important thing-the insurance receipt??
did you take out insurance??
i would go with the second seller,if she mails you the form and sales receipt and the insurance receipt, take them and the box and wrapping and item to your post office,if under 50,you will get paid right there.
provided it is the fault of the post office.
